Namaste all.

I love this verse of 11th chapter in which Lord Krishna tells Arjuna

about the so called 'importance' of his fighting the war!

...nimittamAtraM bhava... just be a willing instrument... (in the hands

of the Lord)

" The blessed Lord said,

'I am time, " powerful destroyer of worlds

working here " to annihilate worlds.

" Even without you " , all the warriors

who are deployed in the opposing armies will not exist.

Therefore stand up, obtain glory!

Conquering the enemies, enjoy prosperous kingship.

" By me these have already been struck down;

Be the mere instrument " , left-handed one.

Drona and Bhishma and Jayadratha and Karna

as also other warrior heroes " killed by me " , slay.

Do not hesitate; fight!

You will conquer the adversaries in battle.' "

Gita 11.32-34

Yes Pyariji, this shows that Krishna was talking about actual

fighting, not just some metaphorical internal battle.

Namaste all. The fight described is more than just external or internal.

Spiritual seekers should 'study' the entire Gita, 18 chapters.

We cannot draw simple conclusions based on one or two verses.

We all know Bhagavadgita is known as 'Gitopanishad', as another

Upanishad itself and is considered being one of the esteemed'

Prasthana Trayam'.

sarvopaniSado gAvo

dogdhA gopAla nandanaH,

pArtho vatsaH sudhIr bhoktA

dugdhaM gItAmRtaM mahat'

" All the Upanishads are the sacred cows,

the Milker, is the Divine cowherd Boy, Lord Krishna,

Partha (Arjuna) is the truly surrendered calf,

devotees with purified mind and heart are the blessed drinkers,

and the essence of milk itself is the immortalizing great Nectar! "

This discourse has been given to a well established, completely

surrendered student as well as a dear friend of the Jagadguru

(Universal Teacher) Sri Krishna. This verse states Arjuna's total

surrender praying for His guidance even before the discourse has begun:

Verse 2.7

Arjuna said to the Lord,

kArpaNya doSopahat svabhAvaH

pRcchAmi tvAM dharma sammUDha cetAH,

yaccreyaH syA nnizcitaM brUhi tan me

ziSyaste te 'ham zAdhi mAM prapannam

" My nature is weighed down with the taint of feeble-minded-ness;

my understanding is confused as to right duty.

I entreat You, say definitely what is GOOD for me.

I am Your disciple. Do instruct me who have taken REFUGE in You. "

After giving the long discourse as well as the Divine vision of

Universal Form to Arjuna, the Lord says at the end in 18th chapter:

" sarva karmANyapi sadA kurvaNo madvyapAzrayaH

mat prasAdAd avApnoti zAzvataM padam avyayam "

(Gita 18.56)

" One to whom I am the REFUGE even while he REMAINS engaged in ALL

actions, (he) attains the eternal, immutable state through My Grace. "

" cetasA sarvakarmANi mayi saMnyasya matparaH

buddhi yogam upAzritya macchittaH satataM bhava "

(Gita 18.57)

" Mentally dedicating ALL ACTIONS to Me and accepting Me as the

Supreme, have your mind ever absorbed in Me by resorting to

the yoga of wisdom. "

" maccittaH sarva durgANi mat prasAdAt tariSyasi

atha cet tvam ahaMkArAn na zroSyasi vinaMkSyasi "

(Gita 18.58)

" Having your mind FIXED on Me, you will cross over ALL the

difficulties through My GRACE.

If, on the other hand, you do NOT LISTEN out of EGOTISM,

you will PERISH. "

" If filled with EGOISM, you think " I will NOT fight, "

vain is this, your resolve; your nature will COMPEL you. "

(Gita 18.59)

" Thus knowledge more secret than the secret

has been explained to you by me.

Reflecting on this completely, do whatever you wish. "

The Lord sets His own rules to whom His confidential teachings are to

be given and not.

What is the point of wasting one's breath on unworthy, disqualified

students who are unwilling to advance further to practice or live in

the Lord's True teachings?

idam te natapaskaya

nabhaktaya kadacana

na casusrusave vacyam

na ca mam yo 'bhyasuyati

" This confidential knowledge may not be explained to those who are not

austere, or devoted, or engaged in selfless service to Me, nor to one

who is envious of Me. "

Krishna states to Arjuna clearly why he is receiving this

transcendental knowledge. It is not because Lord Krishna is just

throwing it around left and right, but because Arjuna is

qualified to receive it.

idam tu te guhyatamam

pravaksyamy anasuyave

jnanam vijnana-sahitam

yaj jnatva moksyase 'subhat

" The Supreme Lord said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious

of Me, I shall impart to you this most secret wisdom, knowing which

you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence. "

Finally Arjuna expressed his unconditional acceptance of Lord's

teachings in total surrender when he was asked:

" ..Has this been heard by you, Partha,

with one-pointed thought?

Has it destroyed your ignorant delusion, wealth winner?' "

Arjuna said,

" Delusion is lost, recognition gained,

through Your grace by me, unchanging One.

I stand with doubt dispelled.

I shall do Your word. "

So I believe Gita is more than mere battle of words, opinions and

armies irrespective of their being either external or internal!
