Namaste.

A few quotes from Scriptures stressing on the importance of

Sant and Sat-Sang:

Padma Purana (6.128.269)

bhaktir yathA harau me'sti

tad-variSThA gurau yadi |

mamAsti tena satyena

svaM darzayatu kezavaH ||269||

If my devotion to my guru is even stronger

than my devotion for Lord Hari,

then may this truth cause Lord Hari

to reveal himself to me.

HBV 4.358:

bhaktir yathA harau me'sti

tadvan niSThA gurau yadi

mamAsti tena satyena

svaM darzayatu me hariH

If my commitment to my guru is as strong

as my devotion for Lord Hari,

then may this truth cause Lord Hari

to reveal himself to me.

HBV 1.28

SB 11-2-37

Fear arises when a living entity mis-identifies

himself as the material body because of absorption

in the external, illusory energy of the Lord.

When the invidual soul thus turns away from

the Supreme Lord, he also forgets his own

constitutional position

as an eternal servant of the Lord.

This bewildering, fearful condition is effected

by the potency for illusion, called mAyA.

Therefore, an intelligent person should engage

unflinchingly in the unalloyed devotion of the Lord,

accepting the guidance of God-realized Rasik Saint,

whom he should realize as his worshipable Deity

and as his very life and soul.

---------

sa vai priyatamaz cAtmA yato na bhayam aNv api |

iti veda sa vai vidvAn yo vidvAn sa gurur hariH ||

One who knows that the Lord alone is the dearmost, that he is the very

Self, and that one need have no fear of him, that person is wise. And

the person who is wise is Guru, and he is God.

SB 4.29.51

tasmAd guruM prapadyeta

jijJAsuH zreya uttamam

zAbde pare ca niSNAtaM

brahmaNy upazamAzrayam

Therefore one who is inquisitive about the ultimate good in life

should surrender to a spiritual master who has thoroughly understood

the purport of the scriptures, who is fixed in divine realization and

has attained peace from the sense impulses. (Srimad Bhagavatam

11.3.21, HBV 1.32)

nR-deham AdyaM sulabhaM sudurlabhaM

plavaM su-kalpaM guru-karNa-dhAram

mayAnukUlena nabhasvateritaM

pumAn bhavAbdhiM na taret sa Atma-hA

This human body is the root of all benefits. It seems so easily

obtained, yet is in fact extremely rare. It is like a boat especially

designed for crossing the ocean of material existence. If one has a

spiritual master to guide him like the boat's helmsman and is given

the favorable winds of My mercy, but still fails to cross over, then

he is wilfully committing suicide. [11.20.17]

Srimad-Bhagavatam 10 /87 /33 - Prayers of the Vedas:

vijita hrsikavayubhira danta manas turagam

ya iha yatanti yantum atilolam upayakhidhidah

vyasanasatanvitah samavahaya guruscaranam vanija

ivaja santyakrtakarnadhara jaladhou

The mind is like an impetuous horse that even persons who have

regulated their senses and breath cannot control. Those in this world

who try to tame the uncontrolled mind, but who abandon the feet of

their spiritual master, encounter hundreds of obstacles in their

cultivation of various distressful practices. O unborn Lord, they are

like merchants on a boat in the ocean who have failed to employ a

helmsman.

yasya sAkSAd bhagavati

jJAna-dIpa-prade gurau

martyAsad-dhIH zrutaM tasya

sarvaM kuJjara-zaucavat

O King! The spiritual master, the giver of transcendental knowledge,

is directly the Supreme Lord Himself, His prakAza-vigraha. If someone

has the false idea that he is an ordinary human being, a mere mortal,

then all his study of scripture is as useless as the bathing of an

elephant. (7.15.26)

--------

eSa vai bhagavAn sAkSAt pradhAna puruSezvaraH

yogezvarair vimRgyAGghrir loko vai manyate naram

SB 7.15.27

bhaktir yathA harau me'sti

tadvan niSThA gurau yadi

mamAsti tena satyena

svaM darzayatu me hariH

If my commitment to my guru is as strong as my devotion for Lord Hari,

then may this truth cause Lord Hari to reveal himself to me.

(verse from the Devahuti-stava in Padma Purana, quoted in HBV 4.358)

yasya deve para bhaktir yathA deve tathA gurau

tasyaite kathitA hyarthAH prakAzyante mahAtmanaH

Svetasvataropanishad 6.23

If one has supreme devotion to God,

and for one's teacher as much as for God,

to this one these teachings which have been declared

may become manifest in a great soul,

yes, may become manifest in a great soul.

Lord says in Bhagavatam 11.12.24:

evaM gurUpAsanayaika-bhaktyA

vidyA-kuThAreNa zitena dhIraH |

vivRzcya jIvAzayam apramattaH

sampadya cAtmAnam atha tyajAstram ||

Thus, the enlightened person should wisely

cut off the coverings over the pure soul with

the axe of knowledge that has been sharpened

through single-minded devotion based in worship

of one's spiritual Master.

Then, when one is Self-realized, one should abandon even

that weapon which had been utilized for attaining this goal.

Happy Guruvaar!

Namaste all.

Here are a few beautiful verses from

" Sri Rama Carita Manas " - by Sant Tulasi Dasa

aba mohi bhA bharosa hanumantA,

binu " hari kRpA " milahi nahi santA.

I have now full confidence and faith in the

great devotee Sri Hanumanji.

Without the causeless Grace of Lord Hari, no one

can acquire the association of God-realized Saints.

santa vizuddha milahi puni tehI,

'rAma kRpA' kari cita vahi jehI

Fortunate association with the pure devotees of the Lord,

the Rasik Saints is ordained to the sincere seekers by

the causeless Grace of Lord Ramacandra.

binu satsanga viveka na hoyI,

'rAma kRpA' binu sulabha na soyI.

" Without the association of pure devotees, the Rasik-Saints,

no knowledge of devotion can dawn in the hearts of the seekers.

And without His Divine Grace,

no such thing can be easily accomplished!

mana krama vacana chADi caturAyI,

bhjatahi 'kRpA' karata raghurAyI.

So throwing away all the arrogance,

selfish interests and craftiness

from one's word, deed and mind,

if one sincerely pray for Lord's Grace,

Lord Hari will shower His causeless Grace

upon those yearning ones!

" titIkSavaH kAruNikAH suhRdaH sarva dehinAM

ajAta zatravaH zAMtAH sAdhavaH sAdhu bhUSaNAH. "

" The Rasik Saints can be distinguished from the rest

as They are- forbearing, compassionate and composed.

They are friendly to all living beings

and inimical to none and ever peaceful.

Their good disposition itself

serves as an ornament to them.

With an undivided heart They engage

in unflinching devotion to Me.

And for My sake, They abandon even Their obligatory

duties and forsake Their kinsmen and relations.

Nay, They listen to and narrate delightful stories

relating to Me, Their mind ever set on Me.

Afflictions of various kinds never torment such Saints.

Such are holy men, free from attachment, O virtuous lady!

Attachment to such Saints must be sought for by you;

for They counteract the pernicious effects of worldly attachment.

Bhagavatam 3.25.21-24

satAM prasaGgAn mama vIrya saMvidO

bhavanti hRtkarNa rasAyanAH kathAH,

tajjOSaNAd Azv apavarga vartmani

zraddhA ratir bhaktir anukramiSyati

Bhagavatam 3.25.25

Through the fellowship of the Rasik Saints,

the seeker gets to hear My (Lord's) blissful

stories and heroic exploits leading to a correct

and complete knowledge of My Glory, pleasing

his ears and relishing in his heart.

By hearing from such pure devotees whose

realization is preceded by the cessation of ignorance,

the seeker is sure to develop one after the other faith,

reverence, fondness, attachment and loving devotion

to the Lord. "

Jaya Sri Radhey!

Also enjoy Gaudiya Vaishnava Acarya

Sri Vishwanath Chakravarti Thakur's

commentary to 3.25.25:

sAdhu-saGgata eva bhagavati mano ratiM vahatIty atra kramam Aha satAm

iti | saGgaH prArthya iti pUrvokteH prathamaM zraddhA tataH satAM

prakRSTAt saGgAn mama kathA bhavantIty AdAv aprakRSTAt saGgAd

bhajana-kriyA-mAtraM, na tu kathAH | tataH prakRSTAt saGgAd

anartha-nivRttikAH kathA bhavanti | tatas tA eva kathA niSThAm

utpAdayantyo mama vIryasya man-mAhAtmyas

It is said that the mind develops affection for the Lord through the

association of pure devotees, Rasik Saints. In this verse the

progressive development of such affection will be shown. One first

develops a little faith for associating with pure devotees when he

first hears that one should seek it out.

In the best kinds of devotional association one hears sweet, blissful

exploits of Lord Krishna, whereas in inferior association, one may

engage in various ritualistic practices, but not hear any sweet

stories of Hari's pastimes.

The Hari Katha that one hears in such association of Rasik Saints

causes the elimination of anarthas (obstructions in surrender)

producing firm commitment to hearing more about the Lord.

Then one gets a genuine perception of Krishna's glories

(vIrya-saMvido) and then, as one develops a taste, they become

ever more " pleasing to the ear and satisfying to the heart. "

By continuing to relish Krishna katha with affection (joSaNAt) one

develops attachment for the Lord, who is the path to liberation

(apavarga-vartmani), then bhAva, and then prema. (Kapila says) This

kind of devotion will now be spread by me throughout the world

following this sequence.

Namaste. Happy Guru vaar!

By the constant association of the winds which carry

the exotic scent from the Southern hills of Malaya Mountain,

even the surrounding dried up trees whose only use could be

as ordinary fire wood, become transformed into sandalwood,

the precious perfume and soothing cool unguent.

Similarly even the wicked, hard-hearted people

are transformed into pious, virtuous individuals

by the blessed association of Saintly souls.

Tell just what great benefits cannot be attained

through the holy association of Saintly devotees!
