Guest guest
Sri Chinmoy ~ " When you are angry. first ask yourself if you are doing the right thing by becoming upset. If somebody has done a terrible thing, can you change his nature by scolding him, by insulting him, by punishing him? Impossible! Suppose somebody has done something wrong and you have scolded that person. He is extremely sorry and sheds bitter tears. If you go deep within, you will feel sorry that now that person is sad and miserable. If you are sincere, you will see that you have done many, many things worse than the person whom you have scolded. You may even start shedding tears or feeling remorse for the many thousands of things you have done wrong in your life. Like this, the misery never ends. The best thing is not to get upset. Just feel that it is an experience you had for only a few seconds. You may forget your anger temporarily, but if you have not illumined it, then it may still pull you down. Let us say you have an unpleasant experience during the day. A few hours elapse and then you forget the experience. Unless you have forgiven the person involved, you have not illumined the anger. Anger may still be pulling you down several rungs of your consciousness-ladder. Sometimes you quarrel with the members of your family and then you go to sleep. The next morning you find that you cannot meditate. You have totally forgotten the incident, but while you were sleeping, the strength of the anger increased. When something has gone wrong, it is better to rectify it and illumine it immediately. There are two ways to illumine anger. One way is to enlarge your heart. If you have been wronged, use your power of identification. Feel that it is you yourself or an extended part of your own consciousness that has done the wrong thing. The sooner you can rid yourself of the idea that somebody else has done something to you, the better off you will be. The second way is to think of perfecting yourself. When you stop thinking of perfecting others and only care for your own aspiration, you will be liberated from anger. Instead of looking around to see who is obstructing you or standing in your way, just pay all attention to your own self-discovery. When you have discovered your true self, you will see that there is nobody imperfect on earth. Everybody is perfect in you.
