Guest guest
Differences or Sameness, Separation or Unity, Fear or Love Differences => Separation => Fear => War Sameness => Unity => Love => Peace Amma says, " Intellect is like a pair of scissors which cut and separate; the heart is like needle and thread which sew things together. " Amma, Jesus, all genuine teachers teach the same thing: " Love God, Love yourself, Love everyone including enemies. Seeing God in everyone makes this possible because God is Love, and your true nature, who you really are, is also Love. Love is Truth. " This is the essence of all spirituality, the rest are all details which need to be managed in an appropriate sattvic way without allowing intellect to distort Love[ Truth ] into negative emotionalism. When the essence of this teaching has been experienced and understood deeply enough, one sees from the heart that there is no difference between Amma, Christ, Babaji, others as far as the essential teaching is concerned. It's the same. If you see differences, you are seeing from the intellect focusing on some details and not on the essence. For example, if you know yourself, your true nature, as Pure Love, then it doesn't matter if you are married, single or a renunciate; you will be happy. But, if you don't know your true nature as Love, then it may seem to matter a lot. And if your choice, which is your responsibility, doesn't work out as your intellect had expected, your intellect will find someone/everyone to blame except yourself. This blaming will make you miserable and the intellect will look to justify itself perhaps by clinging to some fundamentalistic divisive belief " my belief/teacher is better than your belief/teacher, etc. " There is nothing wrong in you believing that one teacher is better/best for you personally, but if you try to impose this relative truth onto others, then you're trying to make a relative truth an Absolute and entering the dangerous route of divisive fundamentalism. One big problem in all of this is that emotionalism, even negative emotionalism, may be confused with Love. But negative emotionalism, actually, is not a feeling of the heart, although that's the common mistaken assumption. Negative emotionalism is actually the head interpreting what Love should be in a distorted way. In order for the intellect to function properly without distortions, the heart has to be sufficiently open to God's Pure Love as an experience. This is not so hard, as many experience this as compassion for the suffering of others as in the Haiti disaster, etc. This is why Amma emphasizes selfless-service so much, in order to bring proper balance between heart and head. It is not the heart that needs to be purified because the " heart " as I use the term here is always pure. It is the intellect that needs to become more pure, more sattvic, to allow the experience of God's Love in its Purity, not distorted into negative emotionalism. All spiritual practices are for the purpose of 1) managing the mind and keeping it out of trouble( i.e. making it more sattvic), 2) slowing thoughts down to increase space for the heart, 3) allowing your identification to shift from body-mind to Love[ Self]. thanks for listening Amma Bless, amarnath
