Guest guest
It is said that when the time is right, the spiritual master will come to us. We need not go searching for one. When we are ready for spiritual guidance, the master appears in our lives. For each person the first encounter is special and unique. There are many interesting stories about how people have come to meet Amma for the first time. I heard of a man who was walking past a building in Sydney, Australia where Amma's program was being held. He saw all the rows of shoes and thought there was a shoe sale going on so he entered the building and went into the program place to try and buy a pair of shoes. When he found out that it was not a shoe sale, he was a bit disappointed but he took a pamphlet about Amma, put it into his pocket and left. Later that day, his wife was about to wash his clothes. Before putting them in the washing machine she first checked his pockets. She found the pamphlet about Amma, read it, and then became so curious about Amma that she decided she had to go and meet her. She went to the program and from then on became a devotee. Another man brought his friend to see Amma. Both of them were disciples of Neem Karoli Baba who had died many years before. After receiving darshan the man asked his friend, " What do you think about Amma? " The friend replied, " Well, She's okay, but She's not like our old master. " They sat down in the crowd a short distance from Amma. At that moment, Amma picked up a banana and threw it at them, which was the same exact thing that their old master was in the habit of doing. This person's opinion changed very quickly! Wherever Amma goes in the world, She reaches out to open people's hearts. She never forces anyone to come to Her but spontaneously people are drawn. After some time they may start to discover the warmth of love beginning to grow within them. Amma has never asked anyone to believe in Her or worship Her. She has only asked that we try to become better human beings and know who we really are. The truth is that we really do not know who we are. We spend most of our lives as stranger to our Self. Only someone like Amma really know us, better than we know our own selves.
