Guest guest
Dear Marci, I believe it what you are saying 150%. I am following the teachings of Jesus Christ right now. And his wish is that all poverty and hunger be eradicated. He is teaching right now through a woman known as Anne a Lay Apostle. This is in keeping with the Catholic tradition and this work has been blessed by the Church. Jesus and Mary have come to many over the centuries to teach what is most important for that day and age. You can find his teachings and his call for all of us to come together as one humanity in love, peace and compassion on Direction For Our Times. We need more of the social venture capitalism that you speak of as there are many with extreme wealth around the world. I have written to Ammachi herself, as well as two other people in this new program at Amrita University, as the program is just beginning they have not received funding or the " people " yet, but they have contacted two of the wealthiest businessmen in Northern California to work on this project. They are the creators of Hotmail and Exodus. I was not given much of an explanation by these two professors at Amrita University as to what this research and project will entail. I have worked at the University of California San Francisco, where most of the research is funded by the federal government and used as a public service to give back to the community. Most of it is spoken about publicly so there are no ulterior motives. My prayer is that Amritapuri is also looking for social structures to empower the poor and needy in every way imaginable as they are a wealthy organization and have been for a long time. I think this is a better way to look at this rather then saying we are bashing anyone. I am only questioning as many others have done before me. As far as I know we, as a human race, are still responsible for feeding the hungry and should not waste time building elaborate structures and systems until they can feed themselves. Lord Jesus Christ says we have enough resources in our world as it is so that each person should be taken care of. That means our sisters and brothers who have these resources should hear the call within themselves. I think our prayers can help. The one way I know how to do this is to sponsor an impoverished child from around the world, the one organization that I have worked with for four years is Children International, they are reputable and require a very small financial obligation monthly. My wish is that Amma would encourage her children to help charities around the world and their local communities and not to go to her Ashram, tours and retreats, but to use their time and money in a different way. This is in keeping with Lord Jesus Christs teachings. He is asking us all to renounce worldly things, but to take care of our loved ones and families, and to understand the vocations that we already serve are our true service to God. He works with us directly in every moment, He or She, depending on how you look at it. At some point we must assimilate the Guru into ourselves and not need to be as dependent on the external form as the Grace of God can come at any time. In peace, S ________________________________ Ordinary Sparrow <ordinarysparrow Ammachi Tue, December 29, 2009 5:03:34 PM Re: term Venture Capitalist Greetings Stacee Just my thoughts on Venture Capitalism. Once again would encourage you to do an indepth search of Venture Capitalism. Stacee i can easily get in over my head here for the complexities of economics is definitely not my specialty. These are some things you might want to consider when graveling with the concept Venture Capitalism. It sounds to me like you are seeing the term from Western lens. And yes we are living in times when greed has gone amok by Capitalism. Please remember we are in a very different social and economic place than India. Many have been held in dire poverty in India with little abilities to move into higher economic structures because of the inability to obtain credit. I think if you search the full range of credit you will find that many countries have been lifted out of poverty in large part because of innovative Venture Capitalism opportunities, two that come to mind are Cambodia and Vietnam. Venture Capitalism makes it possible for individuals to obtain financial backing that they could not obtain from the old encrusted financial institutions that will not loan except to the well established. Once again there are different kinds of " Social venture capital is a form of venture capital <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venture_capital> investing that provides capital to businesses deemed socially and environmentally responsible. These investments are intended to both provide attractive returns to investors and to provide market-based solutions to social and environmental issues. " Wicki Not so many years ago there was the man from India that won the Nobel Peace Prize for social venture capital. . .Stacee Micofinancing is a form of Venture Capitalism. Stacee i hope you can follow some of these links from Wickipedia and see that Venture Capitalism is truly a much broader economic term. Also you might want to look into the history of Martin Luther King Jr. and also Gandhi. . .I think you will find lots of material written about poverty and their views that economic structures have to be put into place for there to be lasting change. Martin Luther King Jr. strong message was no real reform would be possible for African Americans until there would be financial systems put in place that would allow them to enter the market place. With each underprivileged person that is able to start a business, they not only change their own lives but employ others. I can dig those references out if you cannot find them. Poverty is not changed by handing out rations alone. People need sustenance for living but they also need innovative educational and economic programs to lift them out of poverty so they can lift others out. That is how poverty is truly overcome. It appears to me Amma is implementing the dreams of both Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Stacee i a large part of the problem is in understanding culture differences and realizing that our social situations and economic language and reality may be very different than India's social and economic language and reality. Stacee this is just a couple of the angles i see, truly there are many ways and layers of seeing and meaning and i do not need to invalidate anyone for the lens they see their world. I know my own bottom line, i trust Amma, she lives in my heart i know her goodness. I also know how hard it can be to go through the process of fire and ice, the ego can find all kinds of ways to avoid and protest its nothingness. For those that have left Amma i wish them grace and goodness at every turn for i trust each person to be determiners of their path. If this is an issue that really troubles your heart then i would encourage you to write Amma directly. Some references you might be interested in concerning Social Venture Capitalism.
