Guest guest
Dear Amarnath ~ you are so write, and I was speaking primarily in general terms. For example, it was the Catholic Church that executed millions during the witch burning times. In my early 20's, in addition to beginning my study of eastern spirituality, I also found Christian Mystics to be of like mind, and I have always liked Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. I'm guessing your familiar with one of his best known books, " The Power of Positive Thinking. " I agree with you about Amma's universal message; in its essence, it is inviting and inclusive rather than exclusive. And despite the flack that Obama is getting for inviting the Christian Fundamentalist Preacher (can't recall his name) to open his inauguration ceremony, I applaud him for doing it; he is showing that his tent is very wide and all are invited. And, hey, even Melissa Etheridge liked the guy. But, even in religions like Hinduism, that is supposed be very flexible, there are fundamentalists...It was a Hindu extremist that assassinated Gandhi. On the other hand, in all religions, you can find the Mystics who either keep quiet or preach universal truths; this is what appeal to me the most. And Amma's message seems to be the most universal: Love, Compassion, selfless-service, Awareness **************One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Mail. Try it now. Guest guest
>it was the Catholic Church that executed millions during the >witch burning times. Not exactly. The Inquisition (and some bishops) did hunt witches, especially in the period between 1360 and 1560, and in certain countries of continental western Europe. But the responsibility does go deeper than that: the Church (Catholic and later Protestant) does have to answer for ramping up these persecutions, and for advocating judicial torture that contributed to the craze, but most of the burnings were carried out by secular rulers. >i have seen signs of hope and in the most unsuspecting places > >1) the most popular evangelist Billy Graham...now, much >older and wiser,he says that for himself he believes in Jesus, but for >others, it's between them and God I missed this post earlier, and that is great news. Thanks for letting us know! change, and grace, happens in mysterious ways.
