To n2amma about Amma's Native American Seva

Dear n2amma ~ thank you for sharing this. I have contributed some money to

another tribe, and I'd like to contribute here as well. When I lived in the

Southwest I saw firsthand the impoverished state of some of these beautiful

people. I know that temba also is working with a specific tribe. Even with the

casinos, many in need were not benefiting. And there are tribes and Native

Americans all over the country.

I remember when I was doing some work around art and children and the

environment, I discovered an awful truth ... that NA parents would put " black "

instead of NA in the " race " box when registering their children for school ...

not of course that there is anything wrong with being black or dark skinned, but

they did it because they felt it was better to be " black " than to be NA.

This saddened me from both sides of the coin. I hope we can build a world where

all children feel loved and valued and where cultural differences are part of

what makes us all interesting to each other. If I have not stated this in

the best way, please forgive me. I know there is much sensitivity around these

issues ... I am part Cherokee myself, and also have some black blood in my

past, though I look like any " white " girl of English/Irish descent.
