Guest guest
Dear marci ~ (Please note; this is a long post ... don't read it if you don't wish to.) I think when I previously responded to this video, I mentioned the dog, but I forgot to tell of my own love for dogs and all animals. When I was a child I had a dog, and he was poisoned by a neighbor. It broke my heart, and then, for some reason, I developed a deep seated fear of all dogs, no matter what size they were. If I was out walking and a dog came up to me, even a small one, the first thing I did was find the closest car and get on the hood, or the roof, if the dog was big. I had nightmares about being chased by large dogs. Then much later, I think I was in my 30's then, I got a dog, and then another. I had some difficulty with the dog so I hired a trainer, and we worked through some stuff, for both of us, I think. When I moved to Oregon, I left my dogs with my then room mate. But soon I had another dog, and then when I moved out of my parent's house (again), I left that dog with them because they had fallen in love with him. While I was still in Oregon, but living in a small neighborhood, I was out walking one day. This dog with no leash or collar was watching me. I started to walk towards him (my fear of dogs long left behind; I had become absolutely fearless), and he then began to walk towards me. It was as if God/dess had placed us in the same place at the same time. I got my old leash and made a makeshift collar and then walked the dog all around the neighborhood, hoping that nobody would say (s)he owned him. Pepper and I had instantly bonded, and we have been soul mates ever since. And I don't say that lightly, but I feel that animals can be companions and soul mates and angels, to their human counterparts. I notified the local vet and the local police, all steps in making sure that if he was just lost, his human " owner " could find him. When I went to one house to ask a friend of mine about the dog, she said, " Linda. " Very abrupt, then, " Nobody owns that dog. He just showed up here yesterday. This is a place where people dump their unwanted pets. " I couldn't believe it ... that anyone would " dump " a dog, or a cat or a kitten. I rescued several other dogs, but at one time or another, during my journey in the west and southwest, I found them homes. Pepper stays at my side; he is there for me through thick and thin. If he thinks something is wrong, he will come up and push his face into my hands to let me know he is there. I love Pepper, and I basically love dogs. If I was healthy, I would become a trainer. There is nothing so wonderful as a well mannered dog and a well mannered owner. (As opposed to the whack 'em in the nose, or give 'em a kick type). I am absolutely fearless with dogs now, even those I don't know ... partly because I've learned to tell (easier with animals than with people) which dogs will be hostile and which will not, and partly because it is so easy for me to bond with a dog. Pepper is a beautiful Border Collie, Australian Cattle Dog (Heeler) mix. He has the typical black and white divisions of the Border Collie and the longish hair, but on the white part there is this beautiful gray mottling, a smattering of spots or drops (why he is called Pepper). He has the sweetest brown eyes. He was 6 or 7 when I found him, the vet couldn't be completely sure, so he is 14 or so now, in the glow of his older age. But he still loves to " go get the toy " and run back with it in his mouth, while with his head and neck, he " shakey, shakey, shakes. " (I realize this is prey behavior; most of dog play is based on them being connected back, through time, to wolves and having to learn to hunt. I am sorry for going on for so long about my beloved dog. I know how much Amma loves animals, and I think She would love Pepper if She ever met him. In a way, he is Her emissary, sent to me to give and receive love.
