Guest guest
Dear Amarnath ~ I am so sorry to hear about the robbery. To me it would have been frightening. That you could go look at mug shots and feel empathy and a desire to give prayer says a great deal about your commitment. I was wondering ... has any public figure made the proposal of a US Department of Peace and Domestic Non Violence? If yes, then supporting it would be very easy ... just by writing to elected officials. Or was this the idea of someone on the digest? If this is the case, more ground work would need to be done to create a grassroots groundswell of support. I think many of our politicians would fear supporting something like this because they fear being looked at as " soft " on terrorism. I used to be a staff person for a group called Peace Links. It was founded by Betty Bumpers whose husband was a Senator from Arkansas, and the leaders in the group were all Congressional Spouses. They forged a huge grassroots movement and accomplished a great deal. I'm pretty sure they still are in operation, so perhaps someone could contact them with this idea. This initial idea came from Peace Pilgrim some time ago and is now proposed by a few " spiritually sighted " people. And now seems to be a window of opportunity to work for this and make it come about in a few years and possibly save the human race from extinction **************One site has it all. Guest guest
dear Linda and group members . . . on this discussion once again how we are like pebbles in Amma's tumbler. . . . And for me it is the process of tumbling, it is not about for or against, right or wrong, and in the process of withstanding the tensions am able to get beautiful glimpses of the best within each of you that i believe Amma is in the process of bring forth in so many of Her children in this group. . . these are rays of beauty from the tumbling i am glimpsing. . ..As always Linda see your such goodness and fullness of heart and so often when you express yourself i think of the adage, " vunerability is one's greates strength " . I am so glad you returned to the group. For months in reading Amarnath's comments i have felt the heart and depth for Peace and sense the integrity of walk by way of your comments Amarnath. I do not know anything, but i am believing that Amma has placed in your heart Amarnath the call for peace and action. . .I really honor that in you and your voice. . .and not only will i join you in prayer for a Department of Peace, but will pray that Amma will find strong voice and hands through you Amarnath. . .i typed in to the search engine Amma and War for was curious as to what does Amma say, and of course Amma like Jesus speaks to different people in different contexts. . . i found many and will share for found them interesting. . .by reading the comments i could better understand the voice you are speaking from Amarnath and also the voice and concern that Pranada was voicing. . . I will list some below and was a bit surprised to realize just how powerful Amma's voice is when it comes to speaking out about war and issues of the need to create systems to alleviate poverty and her powerful Call for Action. . . From Max i learn from and so appreciate her voice for it seems anchored and powerful as you speak sister. . .I like Max. . .good stuff. . . And labd i continue to hold your display of non defensiveness. . .and like water you flow with the ebb. . .i always see light in your eyes when you express to the group. . .thanks And Keval love your great humor. . .your one liners say alot and i love to laugh, thanks. . .I thank you for holding the group in moderation. . . As always Temba your consistency in expressing your heart full devotion and desire to serve Amma is beautiful. . .and trust She has started a good work within you and will be faithful to bring your being to completion. . .I often have the sense of wings flapping as i read your post. . .have told myself either Temba is an angel or he is a beautiful bird that is practing to fly into ever increasing service and devotion to Amma. . .I sense from what you write that you wish the group would rally around more to the proposes you bring forth. . .and i trust that Amma is holding up the sky that will one day soon see you fly under with Amma's grace and beauty that is within you. . . And i know Pranada and how deeply she strives to do the right thing. . ..and her committment and desire to serve Amma i hold with true respect. . ..When Temba has called for action i have often thought of Pranada because i know she spends lots of time in serving Amma through her own beautiful abilities and gifts. . . . I know Pranada gives a lot from her Amma heart through her singing, leading music at satsangs and making ready the new ashram in Canada. . . as well as spending lots of hours making mala's to be sold at Amma's programs and knitting for Rosebud reservation. . .as well as keeping up with the prayer list and the seva of serving Amma in Canada, California, and Detroit. . . I think the threads from each that came forth last week was not against anyone, but rather an Amma a space where we could come together and practice that which She is bringing forth in each individually. .. Peace. . ..Love. . .Service. . .Action. . . These are just a few rays from some of the members i have thought about in the past week or so as we have been tumbling and i think you guys are beautiful and we do have the capacity to create a group that is honoring of Amma and each other. . .sometimes we may see things differently and have different beliefs about how something is to be done, but the issues seem more irrelevant for i think you all have beautiful faces, and see that Amma is bringing forth the uniqueness and better angels that is within each is coming through i feel and think. . . But i do have a question. . .who and where is the person that sent forth once exclamatory sentence last week? with what has come forth, i ask that person to come forth and speak a little clearer so we can hear from you. . ..you have heard us. . .we would like to hear you with honor and peace. . . Aum Amriteswaryai Namaha marci (just a few Amma and War comments) Also a link at the very bottom for Linda on the establishment of the Department of Peace to be added as a cabinet positon of the presidency. . .I wish every Nation had a Department of Peace, and would be happy if each country would just take 10% of the budget that is given to the Departments of Defense and War to individuals such as Amma that are out there truly doing the work that serves the world. . .Our Mother is so beautiful and love Her so. . . . War is Primitive *Amma delivered this message on 31 March 2003, after the United States' invasion of Iraq. * War is primitive. Progress is external and culture internal. War is the manifestation of a social psyche that is unable to connect the two. This state of affairs is becoming the curse of humanity. Peace is the way to liberation. Krishna, Christ and Allah abide only in a heart devoid of conflict. More than the destruction wrought on the outside, the wounds inflicted on people's emotional psyche will linger for generations together. Providing food, housing and medical treatment is only a temporary solution for those suffering from the atrocities of war. It may not heal those wounds in the human mind caused by conflict. This applies equally to the warring sides as well as to the general populace. Today, voices in protest against the on-going war are rising all around the world. The voice of prayer should rise along with the voices of protest. May that chorus of voices of prayer soothe the hearts of all. May there be peace and contentment everywhere, in everyone, always. -Amma In The Media <http://www.amma.org.uk/media.htm> International Forum *Amma is regularly invited to address major international organisations.* New York 2006 Amma receives the James Parks Morton Interfaith Award in New York. Barcelona 2004 * " May Peace & Happiness Prevail* " *Parliament of the World's Religions, Barcelona, Spain. * " If in the future, there is a Third World War, let it not be a war between countries, but rather a war against our common enemy poverty. In today´s world, people experience two types of poverty: the poverty caused by lack of food, clothing and shelter; and the poverty caused by lack of love and compassion. Of these two, the second type needs to be considered first - because, if we have love and compassion in our hearts, then we will wholeheartedly serve those who suffer from lack of food, clothing and shelter. " " Amma has heard women from war-stricken areas say, 'We wake up in the morning to the sounds of gunfire and cries of people. Our children cling to us in fear and cry; we also hold onto them and cry. It's been so many years since we awoke to the chirping of birds.' Let us pray that the crackle of gunfire in such places is soon replaced by the chirping of birds, and that the young and old alike burst into laughter instead of tears. " Amma often feels that it would be so beautiful if - like in some child's game - instead of shrapnel, bombs scattered chocolates and candy, or if they spread a beautiful fragrance, or if they illuminated the sky with all the colours of the rainbow. If only the flashes of destruction were flashes of compassion. With modern weapons, man can pinpoint targets with deadly accuracy. If only we could compassionately reach out to the poor, the hungry and the homeless with the same precision! " Let us stand together and show the world that compassion, love and concern for our fellow beings have not completely vanished from the face of the earth. Let us build a new world of peace and harmony by remaining deeply rooted in the universal values that have nourished humanity since time immemorial. Let us say goodbye to war and brutality forever, reducing them to the stuff of fairytales. Let us be remembered in the future as the generation of peace. " *These are excerpts from Amma's speech " Compassion: The Only Way to Peace, " delivered in Paris, France on 12 October 2007, * " Changing the world is like trying to straighten a dog's tail. However much you may try, you won't succeed. But although the tail won't straighten, if you keep trying every day, at least you will put on some muscle. Similarly, even though it is difficult to make a change, our effort to do so in itself brings positive results. It will help us change. Without waiting for others to change, if we change ourselves first, that will make a difference. Instead of worrying about results, focus on doing our best in what we are engaged in. Guest guest
Yep, that's me - the guy with the light in his eyes. No money to his name maybe, but the light illuminates and fills the emptiness in his pockets But seriously on the topic of a Dept. of Peace, I think technically that is the job of the State Dept. and the UN with all their diplomats. But when these diplomats themselves fight among themselves, grabbing power, kowtowing to lobbyists, how can they make peace? A separate dept of Peace might work if it is staffed by peaceful people. Not if they have people holding Conflict Resolution workshops where participants scream at each other saying, " My way of creating peace is the best. " I personally would just like to just pray for peace instead. Seems more direct to me and focuses on the end rather than the means.
