Guest guest
Namaste I always love reading quotes when Amma speaks of rivers. . . and here are a few river quotes by Amma and a couple of ones by Clarissa Pinkola Estes The sun never stops shining; the wind too, continues to blow in eternity; and the river never stops flowing ând¦likewise, Amma too cannot stop loving her children. " Amma If the river leaves a lot of trash, it will come back some time soon to get it. Author Unknown Night and day the river flows. If time is the mind of space, the River is the soul of the desert. Brave boatmen come, they go, they die, the voyage flows on forever. We are all canyoneers. We are all passengers on this little mossy ship, this delicate dory sailing round the sun that humans call the earth. Joy, shipmates, joy. Edward Abbey, The Hidden Canyon -- A River Journey ~Convergence of Rivers: Amma along the Bhavani river 20 Jan 2008, Bhavani River, Tamil Nadu, Bharata Yatra 2008 On the way to Pondicherry, Amma stopped along with the traveling devotees at the convergence of two holy rivers, the Bhavani and Kaveri. Amma used to visit here regularly in between stops of the India tours, but it had been more than three years since the last one. Once, when Amma and the residents stopped here, there was no food to distribute as prasad, so Amma herself concocted a special kind of rice gruel, with mung bean and shredded coconut. In honor of the river, this dish was named `Bhavani kanji,' and is served for dinner at the ashram on Tuesdays. [18bhavani.jpg] On this occasion also, Amma started distributing plates of prasad after sitting down. Many devotees passed their personal plates with names written on them to recieve the prasad, but this created some confusion. When the plates came back, nobody knew which plate goes to who. One person yelled out, `Linda! Where's Linda?' Another `Abhaya? Abhaya?' Seeing this confusion, Amma simply laughed, and began singing some of the newly tuned Tamil bhajans, with only the accompaniment of a brahmacharini's voice and hand clapping. In a way, one can say that this is a convergence of three rivers. This is because Amma often says, `Amma is a river. My nature is to simply flow.' It is the devotee's goal to merge into that flow, which is the real 'samgamam,' or convergence. " Water can wear through stone, " good advice my grandmother said ... but not if that prayer puts us to sleep causing " sinful patience " or an aeternal " put-up-with, " rather than rousing us to new ideas and actions. Consider then, an additional path of heart ... When the wound to a people or the soul is ancient or ongoing, and hierarchies chronically disturb the healings, then, what say you my sister subversive soul, what say you my brother co-conspirator, let us rise up to heal the wounds, bypassing the hierarchy completely ... Dr. Estes Let us be a wild water which knows the way, which has always known the way; smart, heartfelt water, flowing and smacking through piles of rubble, boulder dams purposely laid in order to obstruct this holy river -- our river by birthright of the landed soul. It is not the obstructions where we ought fasten our focus, but rather on unleashing the flow … Water is spirit-subversive, and will find its way around obstacles, find its way under obstacles, find its way over obstructions, .... for even concrete is porous and water will find its way through, even boulders tightly packed show cracks of daylight at night, and water will definitely find its way through.
