Guest guest
Dear Amma Family ~ all your points are deeply felt by me, from each side, and you make very good ones. But now I see more discussion, not about the topic, but about whether we should be discussing the topic. I remember that every digest has a moderator, and I don't know who ours is, but perhaps now would be a good time for that person to weigh in on this discussion. I am more bothered by the fact that what we are mostly doing is discussing whether it's okay to discuss or not. Since I have seen good points on both sides, I will simply embrace the discourse, but as I indicated to Pranada, I will cease being part of it. What you all have said is very significant, and perhaps one of the reasons I felt that Obama's election was a universal/spiritual event is because I am still shamed that my great grandparents owned slaves, as well as by the overt racism I grew up having to hear as a child. And I really don't want to see this devolve into a quoting Amma match. So blessings to all. I am grateful with all my heart that Obama won this election because I DO feel that this is much more than just politics. Okay, that's it .... no more Obama discussion from Linda. So I haven't put the kibosh on this thread. I am not exactly impartial on the US election just because I live in Canada.. I have dual citizenship and voted for the Obama/Biden ticket by absentee ballot. Just an unscientific observation on my part, but it seems like the majority (or at least plurality) of Amma devotees, and western devotees of eastern spirituality in general, are liberals or leftists who vote Democrats (or NDP in Canada), with a good number of Greenies as well. I only know of one devotee who is a Republican, who basically held her nose and voted McCain, not being too thrilled with the choice. At the very least Obama's victory could mean that Americans traveling abroad won't have to pretend they're from Canada Keval
