There is no such thing as mere matter -- only consciousness exists. God dwells in everything; not only in people. God is in the mountains, the rivers and the trees, in the birds and the animals, in the clouds and the sun and the moon and the stars -- in both the sentient and the insentient. Dear marci ~ thank you for sharing this from Matruvani. I particularly resonated with Amma's words below. I have always believed this, even though some religions refer only to sentient life. We are becoming more and more aware through physics and other studies that are going beyond their standard reference points, and we are learning that there indeed is consciousness, or at least the differentiations we thought existed between human and other life, including what would be considered non-sentient, are mistaken and outmoded. As a child and young woman I always felt a sense of life everywhere. I had a special connection to trees and plants. Once I wrote a song ... the part I remember goes, " the trees they dance in the wind, the secret of life therein... " And now I believe as Amma has stated for all to know, that there is life in everything from the smallest stone to the galaxy spinning in space. I also have a personal story to share. Though I love plants, I have always considered that I have a " black thumb, " rather than a green one, for if anyone gave me a plant, sooner or later it would die. I never seemed to figure out how to care for them. Then on my birthday last year, my sister gave me a beautiful planter with five or six different kinds of house plants. I still felt like I didn't know what to do, but periodically I would remember to water them. Then many started to die, their leaves turning brown and papery. I began to try and water more consistently, and I am happy to say that, all but one, have returned to flourishing. There may be too many plants in this one pot, and I know nothing about repotting. So if anyone is good with plants, please let me know because I now feel very committed to caring for these beautiful plants, and Amma's words only reinforced that. I do have to say, that I have even sense life in things that to other people would be considered " dead. " Like the empty and dried out pods of the milkweed plant. To me these pods, which turn a silver gray/brown are so beautiful that I always collect them. Their shape, their colors seem full of life to me. I have saved some of the " dead " leaves from my plants because they too are beautiful and seem still alive to me, only in a different form. But I have to say, my plants were teaching me a lesson, and now with Amma's own words, marci, you have reinforced it. Thank you so much. Guest guest
Namaste Enjoyed reading your thoughts about the sacredness of all nature. . . .i heard a really neat story of NPR. . .a couple of years ago concerning plants. . .. " A scientist in South Africa came upon a rare endangered plant. . .it was taken to the laboratory and for a couple of years they tried everything known to get the plant to reproduce. . .nothing they did worked. . . .so a plant specialist from England came to South Africa and took a clipping of the plant to take back to the " super-dupper " labs in order to see if he could help the plant to reproduce. . . finally after a couple of years of different procedures and treatments the plant in England produced a flower. . . And what is unusual about this story is that the Mother plant in South Africa. . .produced a flower precisely at the same time as the plant in Europe. .. .. I have also heard about the studies where scientist hook up sensitive devices to plants then they will pick plants nearby and the plants being monitored will show heightened response to their friends being picked. . . . surely this is all Amma. . .and all is truly connected. . . dear Sister. . . here is something you might enjoy taking a look at. . .i love trees. . .and do not mind being seen as a tree-hugger. . . .i have never protested to keep a tree alive. . .but have taken bark sample to the local paint store and got a match so those big red X's can be painted over. . .have kept " Grandmother " tree where i like to say prayers to the four-directions, alive for over fifteen years. . figured out one group of people from some city park and recreation department puts the X's on the trees and then another group comes and cuts the trees down. . .guess it is one of those-- the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. . .but am happy for Grandmother tree is well loved by many that walk in the park next to where i live. .. .She emits lots of sacredness, she is really old and so many people just go and sit underneath her.. . .i will post another tree story. . . .Oops!. . ..just realized i was going to share with you a picture of the ta pohn trees. . ..but i got distracted with other tree stories. . .sorry!. . . came across a picture of the ta pohn trees in Cambodia about a year ago. . ..and for me the picture reminds me of Amma at a symbolic tree level. . .i will post a link. . .but if it does not work can google images for ta prom templein Cambodia. . . . this is a bit of history of ta prom. . . (ta prom temple....it was deserted for 500 years and became completely overgrown by the jungle....much of the growth has been cleared away, but some magnificent trees remain. it was actually nature that preserved the temple from destruction for all of those years it was abandoned. in the research i discovered that in 1186 AD king #7 (kings are referred to in numbers!) consecrated several statues here, one of which was that of Prajnaparamita - the personification of the perfection of wisdom....the Mother of all buddhas) _http://www.asiaphotos.net/photo.php?id=361_ (http://www.asiaphotos.net/photo.php?id=361) Linda hope this link works. . .. Thanks for your kind words about typing from the Matruvani. . .i am not typing the stories out. . .but am taking the short-cut. . .of copy and paste. . ..
