dear Max. . .thanks. . .really like reading this one. . .what comfort. . .in

the little book i spoke of in the last email. . .there is a chapter speaking

of Sri Ramakrishna. . .it says this in describing him . . " The old man sits

chatting quietly with his boys. Now, with a twinkle of the eyes, he gives

wordily advise to one--- " Raise the hood (alluring to the cobra); but do not

bite! " Again in a deeper moment, " There are thirty-six letters in the

alphabet, and three of them say 'suffer.' " (Bengali has three S's, which are so

pronounced). "

 

i think one of the ways our ego so often whops us, is that we turn our

suffering into a belief that we did something wrong. Or at least that is a

trick

of my ego. . .i like the Leonard Cohen lines from Sisters of mercy that

says. . . " when you are not feeling holy your loneliness says that you've

sinned. "

It has taken me time to realize that i need to take responsibility for any

given suffering and yet at the same time to hold it with as much compassion

as divine grace can lend. . .then healing has a doorway. . .and dear Linda

know you are doing both and Amma's grace is pouring in. . . .Jai Ma. . . Jai

Ma. . .Jai Ma. . .

universal suffering is gradually transported into longing and
