Guest guest
Dear marci ~ thank you so much for sharing this. I put it immediately into my " favorites. " I knew, of course, of Savriti Bess' book, " The Path of the Mother. " Actually, I have it and have read it. The site is amazing, and I grabbed it because I want to go back and peruse it in more detail. Not only are her words instructive and incisive, her art work and photography is incredible. She mentions Amma at great length on the home page, and indeed it shows the lights of the aarti at the top left. When I was working with victims (had family members who'd been killed or disabled), I studied the work of, and eventually met and talked with, Dr. Elizabeth Kubler Ross. She was the first to identify the stages a person goes through when facing death. In her definition there were 7. Savriti has expanded a bit on that, in a very positive way. One thing I noticed as I was doing this work and study was that I often went through these stages over other perceived " losses. " in my life. When I talked with Dr. Ross I asked her if her stages applied to other, seemingly more minor " losses. She said, " absolutely. " I am currently still working with this over the death of my mother, and, of course, through the process of dealing with my illness. What I have always found, when I go through this process, is that, at the end/beginning is acceptance. Until I reach the stage of acceptance I can not accomplish much because I am stuck in an emotional morass. Yet, only by being stuck, and working my way out again, does the transformation actually happen. I believe when we undergo our final transformation, by what ever cause it happens, that is when the ego dies and the self is liberated. Guest guest
Namaste dear Linda I realized last night that when i copied and pasted the link it had an additional letter at the prefix and when the " p " is removed was allowed access to the site. Agree with you concerning Savriti Bess writings also enjoyed reading her books concerning Amma. . .have not seen her art work though. . .and Elizabeth Kubler Ross is another one that has gifted our lives with her writings and beingness. . . May you be wrapped with Amma's healing and light as you continue to move through the loss of your dear Mother. . .like you indicated the healing is process. . .and will add something from a Jungian writers that helps me remember the process of soul. . . and perhaps why it often takes us to the places that can stretch us. . .and stretch us some more. . . from Marion Woodman and her definition of the soul. I do not know if this is consistent with Amma's teachings, but my path has been informed by Jungian psychology to me it seems consistent with Amma's teachings. . . .. " The soul, for me, is divine part of us that is embodied in the physical form for a few years. Eventually it is released, but I see the soul as the embodiment part. I see spirit as the energy, the disembodied energy that can come in union in the body. .. Example: A great dancer like Nureyey can prepare his instrument. His muscles can be in perfect shape through his attention and his concentration. So, his consciousness, his lighting his body---which for me is the soul----can be a perfect instrument. But, he's a great dancer when spirit is in union with that instrument. The leap is the union of soul and spirit. Soul work is about the soul becoming strong enough to accept the union. If it is weak, or if the body is not conscious, the spirit could come in and cause a psychotic episode. It's like a Rolle Royce engine in a Volkswagen car. .. .. I think of the soul as feminine because its the receiver---in both men and women. The artist, the poet has to have a receiver and just hope to God that the Spirit will come and touch into soul so there will be a poem come of the union or a piece of music or art. It's in that surrender to the transcendent, that art is created. " .. .. This reminded me of Amma's story about the great musician that she asked how he came to play so beautifully. It goes something like this: First, i spent years learning everything about my instrument and practice it till i mastered it. Then spent many more years learning everything about the music, its theory, its scope, its history, etc. . . and studied until i mastered that. Then next i just opened my heart and played. . .
