Guest guest
Dear mm and all ~ it has been awhile since I have read any of the works about Amma, although I have a big collection of videos, and am going to start watching them, one by one. So, more than Amma's words, I think and " see " Her actions. She was born and grew up in impoverished circumstances, but that did not stop Her from Her worship or Her sadhana, nor did She worry, as did Her parents. She even took food out of their own mouths so to speak, to provide food for others in Her village who were ill or very poor. And I think about how She inspired all Her devotees around the world to mobilize and help lighten the blow caused by the tsunami ... big, big blow. She and many of Her devotees worked day and night to build the tent city and then to also house others from Her village in some of Her schools. She worked tirelessly to provide food, and then, finally, She worked to rebuild homes ... and homes that would be better then the ones that had been lost. The other day, in going through a box of packed items, I came across something wrapped in a tea towel. I had taped the word, " bowl, " to it. When I opened it I was so delighted to see that it was the bowl I had bid on and " won " when the MA center in California held the online auction which featured many of Amma's personal items as well as items from different areas where She lived and worked. It was kind of like a spiritual Ebay. This bowl is a very simple bowl, but I love it, and it reminds me that, no matter how bad something might become, people can work together to make it better; people can lean on one another; people can share. In three months time I have lost over $20,000 from my " retirement " account. Since I had to leave work prematurely, it wasn't that big to begin with. Do I worry? Sometimes. But at the end of the day I am reminded of Amma's selfless service and how that can be and is magnified to illuminate beyond itself, like a candle lighting many other candles. I believe strongly that anyone who feels anxious feel free to share, for what are we here for if not to hold up the light for each other. Thank you for asking this very significant question. mm wrote: i do have a question for the group. . .i heard on the radio this week that 84% of women and 75% of men in the States. .
