Guest guest
dear marci ~ Wow! you said a lot, and all of it received, at least by me, with joy and wonder and excitement. And please excuse the length of this post. It is quite clear that what you had to say provided much food for thought. What are these labels that we use anyway? Initially they help us to differentiate and discriminate, in a good way. But as you indicated, differentiation in a good way may lead to some taking their belief as the only truth, and that is the well from which fundamentalism arises. Fundamentalism in any form is dangerous and potentially deadly. What I hope to see is, with any topic brought forward to discussion, that we make an effort to really " hear " what is being " said " and to find a way, if that is possible, to see how it relates to Amma, to Her teachings, to Her actions. In a way, I'd like to see us go beyond the surface. Because I believe, if you think about all the times you have seen Amma rock back on Her seat and laugh that infectious laugh of Hers, or how many times you have seen Her behave in a playful way, or have seen Her dance, then the Yoga of Laugh/the Laughter Clubs and the Hugs become one more extension of Her. I don't think any of us should be afraid to speak because we might be seen as New Age, but rather just speak our hearts, knowing that within and around us all, All is Amma. These are the words of Durga from the Chandi Path*: " I am the only One here in the perceivable world. No other exists beyond me...Then all the Goddesses dissolved into the Being of the Goddess, and there was only ONE EXISTENCE in the perceivable world -- THE MOTHER OF THE UNIVERSE! " *The Chandi Path, also known as the " Durga Saptashati " is Pauranic, comprising the thirteen chapters of the Markandeya Purana...it dates between 900 to 500 BC. It is an epic story and also a form of worship. Durga, arises from the Shakti of Shiva when the Gods were attacked in a great battle. Out of Durga's body emerged Saraswati, Laksmi, and Kali (not necessarily in that order). The Goddesses all joined together to root out the darkness of confusion that caused people to be in distress, to argue, to fight, etc. They joined together to extinguish all forms of negative thought. Yet, even, after the battle, when the negative thoughts are destroyed, by the Grace of the Goddess, they are lifted up to Heaven ... another indication that All is Her. I will suggest that we speak our own truth to wisdom, without fear that what we write will be attacked by giving it one or another label. Labels are meaningless since All is Her. I think that your idea of bringing forward to discuss the idea of what causes fundamentalism, how might we recognize it, and what we do once we have, is a great idea. Any others? Should I start keeping a list?
