Guest guest
Dear visvanathan ~ I believe you are correct about defending the Goddess, and are part of a long and ancient tradition. I was disappointed yesterd ay to see the contentiousness in the digest. Many people, and especially devout Hindus, have recentlybeen celebrating the nine sacred days of Navaratri, and central to that is how the Divine Mother in many forms came and fought the army of negative thoughts. Jumping in with swords and axes ... and pikes and clubs and bows and arrows ... are just some of what Durga Ma employed to destroy the army of the Great Ego. And she had her helpers to defend her honor, as well as to help destroy the army of negative thoughts. These included the Lion she rode on, the many tools she carried (battle ax, bow and arrows, pike, conch (some thoughts were destroyed by sound), a net, sword, etc. She was also aided by Kali, Saraswati, and Laksmi. In the end, though, she was ever compassionate and sent the formerly negative thoughts straight to heaven. At one point in the " story, " after the Gods had been driven from their very abode, after which the Great Ego and his generals and army took up residence there, one of the generals, to stir up more trouble, told the Great Ego about " this goddess who is coveted by many. " He tried cajoling, verbal jabbing, provoking, and more, which didn't take to long to get the Great Ego incensed enough to send yet another army. And he told the general that if the Goddess didn't come willingly to " drag her by the hair. " Imagine! What hubris! That army was then fought and several other battalions who followed after, and all were ultimately reduced to ashes by the Supreme Goddess. So wield away; you are following a great tradition!
