Guest guest
Stop being an ENABLER. For over 20 years, I've personally witnessed the various personality types and MANY people PERSONALLY who battle with addictions and depression (and MANIA) and YOU'RE the one that's ill-informed. I've seen all the types of treatments and they don't work in the long run IF THE PERSON doesn't change. Ask anyone who's been successful LONG-TERM, in over-coming an addiction or other mental problem and they'll tell you that they're not the same person. Psych meds are for those who need them, and only in certain cases are they needed long-term. For example, if your birthstar is Magham, you probably need to be on mood-stabilizers, and have predictable arguments that time of the month (women!). They tend to blurt out things without thinking, and have their feelings permanently attached to a roller-coaster. But hey, at least it's sooo much fun. People want their life to get better, but fight change. " I gotta be me... " Clinical Depression needs medication because it's ACUTE. That's very different than long-term care, in which the person needs to be weened off them, or at least greatly reduced. It's very common for Manic Depressive's to stop taking their meds because they're too stabilizing. I mean, Mania is the best, cheapest, laziest high you can experience. All-natural, no cost trip to la-la land of DRAMA, just stop taking your meds. And then the crash. Depression and Addiction are spiritual in nature, and cannot be completely cured by meds. Even with OCD, there's only so much meds can do, the person has to become mindful of when they're experiencing the condition and decide not to act, etc. Part of depression in older people is nothing more than inertia. I kinda wished Amma made more visits to nursing homes, etc. This past Spring a relative had a stroke. She CHOSE not to be cooperative and 'be her own boss', and it resulted in the insurance company stopping their payment after a month. After that, the psych doctor put her on anti-psychotics. She had certain injuries, but she was putting on an act to get sympathy, both at the rehab center and now (she can move her arm and walk, acts like she can't.). That stroke-rehab center was FULL of depressed elderly people at the total mercy of the staff. It was depressing just to walk through the place. When my aunt was in there, my family worked hard to make sure my aunt had daily visitors, which was way more than any other patient in there. But it wasn't enough. Now, we barely visit her at all because she doesn't want to get better, she just wants to go " home " . She lays in bed, when she could sit in a chair or take a walk. " No progress " means " No Progress " . They don't want to be depressed, but they don't want to be told what to do either, just like you! Like I said before, if you're unhappy, blame the boss. Schizo's and other serious disorders need appropriate treatment. But tell that to someone who may have something like Asperger's, who's probably 'functional'. People have to be willing to do what their therapist recommends to reach a healthy and happy state of mind. Guest guest
growing up on the westside of chicago, was to experience an entire community that was plagued with the energy of depression, addiction, prostitution, drug dealing, gang violence and death.to this day when i return to the neighborhood that i grew up in ,i see the same faces that i have seen for years on the same corners waiting for the same liquar store to open,so they dont get the shakes and possibly die. i see the same women that i knew growing up as a kid, selling their body's in order to get that next hit. AMMAs sun use to get depressed just walking down the street and all he could do was try to save his neighborhood.he failed every time.all he could do is go to his alter and cry to HER to save them.well dear friends my neighborhood is still in a state of emergency and now temba does the little he can to help.my heart wanted to save them ,just as a mothers heart would want all of their children to be free.as i said,i have had to accept my failures time and time again, but LO did i really fail! maybe not since now i have developed a greater capacity to understand and at least try to serve more effectively.maybe i didnt fail since now i can be a bridge that can connect the worlds of the sick and the healthy.those that use drugs and suffer are dealing with a sickness and those that have no understanding and compassion are suffering from a sickness as well.AMMA's love within our very own hearts can meet anyone on their level.for me there is no us and them.in other words, when one hurts we all hurt on some level. AMMA says ,what person cuts their hand and doesn't try to heal it?SHE says that all we have to do is expand and we will realize that when anyone suffers that that is a part of ourselves,no different then the person who has cut his hand. if we are all one, then ofcourse we feel the pain of others.this is the path of the bodisattwa in buddism, the true christian, the addict in recovery and the AMMA devotee who is in love with HER ways.we are all much more the same then we are different.difference is just on the surface.I AM MY WORSE ENEMY.my very own mind and ego has caused me way more harm then any of you ever could.it takes courage to accept this.it takes courage to change.it takes courage to LOVE.when you see someone who has been depressed or who has overcome addiction, CELEBRATE this victory with all of your heart. that person is a child of true courage.people of all races and cultures that have suffered the most are some of the happiest and grateful people alive. n.american culture is documented as one of the most miserable cultures, verses kenya which is one the poorest country's and is said to have some of the happiest and grateful people.i would suppose that they would not see the value in some of our discussions.to smile in gratitude for a grain of rice is likely more important to them.this is the gift to having slept in cardboard boxes in newyork city.my gratitude for life is much more expanded and i am in love with AMMAs inspiration that enables me and compells me to love and serve in the best way that i can. AMMAs sun suggestion is to be careful when we opinionate and don't talk from our true experience.intelectual analizing is very empty and it could be considered a disease itself.the disease of the ego.this is the same disease that has caused wars and has contributed to the destruction of millions of innocent lives.this disease of the ego that seperates, manipulates and controls masses of people's emotions has destroyed much more people then any addict ever could, yet we still pray and chant " MAY ALL BEINGS BE PEACEFUL AND HAPPY " that is just our dharma if we are AMMA devotee;s.that is the perfect example SHE has given us. you are all beautiful to this heart in your own way.we all want the same thing deep down.we all breathe the same air.we are all family, like it or not.when we go back in forth in our disputes we are just acting like kids who want to get their way.this same back and forthness when it gets out of hand,is what gives birth to world wars.it is the same ego beloved family.it is the same disease.love you.
