Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya, At Amma’s program in Iowa a young boy became my teacher. He was mentally challenged in some way, but such a delight to be around. He had no ego. He danced beside Amma at her request until he was exhausted! He was so funny he had me in tears of laughter as I was doing Prasad during this entire interaction. The real Prasad was being able to experience this moment so close to Amma. I laughed and laughed just to watch his joy. I loved to watch Amma interact with him. The pure innocence of his heart was a lesson. At the end of the program on Devi Bhava as Amma was walking towards her vehicle, Darius was there hugging Amma. As the rest of us were dashing down the hall, trying to squeeze closer and closer to Amma with thoughts of wishing Amma were not leaving, squeezing in just to get one last glimpse or one last touch, Darius was smiling. As Amma stepped up to her vehicle Darius yelled “Have a nice summer Amma!” My heart dropped to my stomach and all I could do was say our Mothers name. I laughed and cried at the gesture. So pure, so innocent, and so selfless. I don’t think I will ever forget this moment as long as I live. It was so beautiful to watch him. R. He's been coming to Amma's programs for years and is always a source of joy for all. His spiritual name is Eknath. Amma once said he's an avadhut (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avadhuta). Does anyone know what arrangements his grandmother may have made for his care, after she passes? I'd hate to think of him ending up in some institution. I wonder if Amma would let him live in her ashram.
Guest guest
Darius is really a joy. True autism is not a mental challenge! Many are quite brilliant. I worked with autistic teenagers and love them so much! I felt connected to Darius as soon as we first met. We always hug when we see each other. Anyone I have met with autism has had incredible magnificent gifts that I have found nothing short of amazing. Wow he is an advatu (sp?)! Maybe not so surprising.
