Aha! But who sows the seed of doubt in the disciple? Is it the Guru?

Is is the disciple's own fault and due to his own shortcomings? Or

is it the Guru sowing the seed of doubt as well as the seed of

spirituality?

Better ask Amma.

Hi Parzival, Om Namah Sivaya,

Someplace Amma has pointed out that there will be doubts until there is

Full Awakening. So, the question is, I guess, where do doubts come from

and what do we do with them?

According to advaita( non-duality or One-ness ), the ultimate, ever

present, reality is that there is only the One-God-Self-Awareness and

nothing other than the One-God-Self-Awareness. But, that is not our

moment to moment experience, unless we are fully awakened.

So, another question( doubt? ) arises, if there is only the Oneness and

nothing other, how can that NOT be our experience. The answer is that it

is due to our egoic thoughts. Egoic means IDENTIFICATION with forms(

things, thoughts, doubts, separation, fears, labels, etc ). Somehow, the

formless indivisible Oneness-Awareness identifies itSelf with forms and

becomes lost as in a dream of a continuous stream of thoughts which tell

a story of a little personal self separated from all other personal

little selves and from the One-God-Self.

Logically this may not make any sense… to the ego, that is, because

the ego is limited. Fear, uncertainty and doubt is the nature of the

limited ego.

So the only way to be free of doubts is to Awaken Fully to ones true

nature as the One-God-Self-Awareness whose nature is Fearlesness and

freedom from doubts.

These are just words. However, you can experience this even before fully

awakening. When your mind is totally still, even for a moment perhaps

when gazing at Amma, there are NO doubts because there are NO thoughts.

So, at least intellectually, just know that thoughts, doubts, stories

are not the " ultimate reality " of who you are. However, some of

these may be useful as POINTERS to Self, while others serve only to feed

the egoic doubts and confusion. Try to discriminate what works for you

and ask yourself what do you really want? The Truth of Stillness or the

confusion of doubts and thoughts?

And " ultimate reality " does not mean distant in time, it is

ever present as the substratum of every moment of our life. It just has

to be realized or awakened to. This is what the Mahatmas like Amma tell

us and this is our experience, to some extent, when for at least a

moment our mind becomes still in their presence. Then it's up to us

what we want to make of it.

Amma Bless,

amarnath

Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!

Namaskarams!

it seems obvious to me that the " seed of doubt " has been sown by the

disciple's own ignorance of how GURU works, by the disciple's

arrogance, and egotism, lack of faith, and the materialistic training

bestowed so lovingly upon him/her, by this materialistic culture....

however, even longterm devotees can have this doubt, as seen in the

form of " doubting Thomas " , who refused to believe that Christ had

arisen from the dead, until he was able to touch Him and actually put

his hands in the wounds...and i suspect that even then his mind still

resisted belief.

as has been said so many times: For those with faith, no proof is

needed, but for those with NO faith, no proof is enough.

in my view, Mother is sowing seeds of faith and spirituality in Her

children, but NOT seeds of doubt....those are already there in the

" children " from their past karmas and vasanas...they are what makes it

hard for them to accept Mother's greatness, and even harder for them

to accept Her loving guidance and help in their daily lives. They

themselves cut themselves off from Her Grace, by their lack of faith

and scepticism.

that about sums it up for me....

in Amma's Divine Love,

and in Her Service,

as ever,

your own Self,

visvanathan
