Guest guest
I've made an offer to the ashram, which was forwarded to the California ashram about doing digital conversion of Sw. P's cassettes. I don't know if they're in the works 'there' at MAC, but should hear back eventually. To have them available for download from sites like ITunes, there's a service (tunecore.com) that does distribution for music and spoken word albums. It would need to be in the AAC format, etc. If the ashram is not interested, I plan to do a basic quickie conversion for myself to Mp3 format (to wav first). I've tested tape #30 (Amma's Vedanta). My current software for converting to AAC format makes the talk sound like a bad streaming audio with all the swirling hiss in the background. Plus, I re-mastered the audio by balancing any major changes in volume, added a little bit of noise reduction (complete noise gate sounded bad) and a touch of medium room reverb for a spatial 3-D effect, and adjusted the EQ for clarity. It sounds a lot better, but there's only so much that can be done with distorted sections. Either way, each tape would need to be broken up into smaller tracks like a CD, and a new " square " album cover designed. I would need to get different software that allows changing the settings for AAC conversion if I did this seva. Even so, for quality, it may be best to put it in mp3 format if the swirling hiss can't be done away with. If the ashram is not interested, I may be able to provide mp3's for devotees and have them pay through Ebay Giving Works or similar. The main difference is that my mp3 conversion will have fewer, unlabeled tracks (ie part 1, 2, etc.) and not divided by topic but for size only. I'd try to do the other re-mastering stuff, too. I'll post later when I get a response from them. tom
