Amma in DC

I just wanted everyone to know a little about Amma's visit to DC.

It was short - two days - but a lot can happen in two days - lives can turn

around in a

heartbeat, and I have no doubt many did.

Amma finished Devi Bhava up around 7 am on Tuesday morning (7/10/07). The

biggest

news is when they do Archana between 1 and 2 am on a regular night and between 5

and

6 am on a DB night. The Archana consists of the Swamis chanting the 108 Names,

the

1008 Names and the Mahishasura Mardini Strothram. It's so awesome, and the when

big

Swami did it on Devi Bhava morning, his thunderous voice rocked the whole hotel

- my

bones would vibrate because his low notes (his voice) are huge, deep, and

powerful.

Also, when being in the presence of Amma for two whole days, the outer world

lost its

grip on me and my so called worldly problems become so small I forgot about

them. I

know that might seem like an obvious observation, but it's the first time I felt

it so deeply.

The balance between Divinity and the world was definitely tipped in the former's

favor.

The other thing I noticed was the relationship between the amount of grace I

received and

the amount of seva I performed. I worked the whole time, really, and I was

rewarded wih a

lot of duties close to Amma. Just being that close to her just changed me. It

reminds me of

that Jimi Hendrix song - Let Me Stand Next To Your Fire. Just being near the

" heat " of

Amma for a length of time is an experience that's hard to quantize or describe.

There was a new seva called " Gazing Lap " where you sit right next to Amma's left

knee and

just watch, just observe, just soak it in - that's all you do. I got to do that

twice, and I tried

to stop thinking and soak up the vibes, as they used to say. It was mesmerizing,

to say the

least. The way she handles everybody, the way she keeps track of everything, the

way she

misses nothing, the way the love is always flowing. I tell my friends if someone

asked me

what would it be like if God took human form, I'd just point to Amma and tell

them to just

watch her for awhile.

I also got to sing a song for Amma - I'm in the local bhajan group, and it was

quite moving

for me.

Anyway, that's my little report. If I think of anything else, I'll pass it

along.

Om Namah Shivaya!

Wow!! that's really early :) in Toronto we expect the

devi bhava to wrap up well after 9 am.. in 2004 they

didn't get to the Amma Amma Taye flower toss until

almost noon!

Which bhajan did you sing? I'm practicing " Mere vich

ram " for Amma's Toronto program.. Toronto satsang

group's got quite a few bhajans locked and loaded,

including a couple of original compositions in French

and Punjabi.

Thanks for sharing. I haven't been to Washington,DC

since a 8th grade field trip, during the Nixon

administration!

Keval,

I sang the English version of Amritanandamayi Jai Jai (words at bottom of this

message).

I like that your group has original compositions. I was under the impression

that original

stuff wasn't allowed in bhajan groups, although individuals could ask Amma if

they could

sing their own songs for Her. At least that's what our coordinater tells us.

Maybe it's a

matter of interpretation.

Don't forget to give Santosh (sound guy) some blank cd's so he can record your

group

when you all sing.

DB in DC was on a Monday night and attendance was about what we expected. On

Sunday

morning, the crowd far exceeded our expectations - we were swamped! People

showed up

in droves, and we scrambled to accommodate such a large crowd. But it all worked

out,

with Amma's grace.

That's it. If I think of anything more, I'll pass it on.

In Her heart only Truth

2) Melting each heart with her smile

Gently showing that all are but one

Goddess Shakti, ever blissful

How divine her grace

Achyut that was a beautiful Amma story. Thanks so much for sharing your

experiences. Believe, there is grace in your being able to tell the story and

grace that your awareness was such that you can see things differently.
