Greetings all, Robin thanks for posting this exerpt about Shradda.

Does anyone have strategy for how to keep the ego from jumping up and saying

to oneself, " oh you are so holy and so special, you can concentrate and you are

so perfect! "

I am finding it difficult to just be in the peace without commenting to myself

how wonderful I am and then chastising myself for saying how wonderful I am. It

is a funny monkey mind game that I have to laugh at...the mind is so tricky

sometimes.

Dearest Sister Supriti,

You are so funny and cute. This is so normal. I have been having the same

problem with my own ego you remind me so much of myself. Aside from chanting

your mantra here is what I do when I have negative thoughts or ego creeping

in... aside from chastising myself as well. This is from another email from

awhile back:

Any bad thoughts that rise up within me I tell myself quickly " I am not these

thoughts " over and over. Any good thoughts that come up, the 'I' tries to take

credit, I tell myself " These thoughts belong to Amma, there is no 'I' here,

there is only Amma. " If a situation is happening I don't like...I try to

immediately become a witness to thoughts and actions and let it go, surrendering

to the outcome. I try to take the 'I' away, the 'selfish' feeling and tell

myself the next time my body and mind are tired, " You are not the body, the body

is here to serve others, not the self. " These things can become overwhelming to

me often, but then I hear Amma whisper, " One step at a time, your effort is

good. Don't become overwhelmed, take it slow and do what you can when you can. "

When I feel myself letting go, surrendering, I feel the humility within rise up,

then Amma comes and nothing else matters in that moment, only Amma. Keep shining

on and remember that within each of us is our

own Amma.

Something that has been working for me since trying out the lessons from the

previous email you just read about shraddha is chanting my mantra constantly and

while chanting I imagine Amma's Divine form in my heart with a candle light ..

somehow it is so easy that way for me. Its brought me immense concentration for

the past two days and an overwhelming devotion at times. Her presence is

undeniable. The concentration keeps away the thoughts and the devotion keeps

away the ego.

Hope one of these helps! I will be going to Dallas, Iowa and Chicago this

year... I will look for you...

Love always,

R.

I should also probably throw in that this is defiantly hard because as Swami

says.. your eyes do have a tendency to wander which makes it hard to focus your

mind... but when you realize your mind is wandering you just bring it back and

continue...some is better than none, small steps, big leaps! Eventually, I am

guessing our concentration will progress.

What do you do when it's not thoughts that mess up your concentration, but

images and

music?? I see stuff al the time, and hear music too.

here's some meditation ideas - first it may not be productive to try

and stop the thoughts, images, sounds, etc - they come anyway, and

sometimes the harder you try to suppress them the more they come. So

why not let them come, observe them, and let them go.

Then realize that you can forget the ego- it's not you. There is no

you. You don't live life- life is being lived through you. You're just

the vehicle. Do you make your blood flow, your heart pump, your

hormones excrete, your cells divide?

You don't create your joy either. You just plug into the universal joy

that permeates the universe. You have nothing to do with it - no ego.
