Guest guest
online registration for the Toronto retreat is now up.. you will have the option to pay in either CAD or US$.. the CAD is now trading at 91 cents US, the highest it's been in years.. so the Toronto retreat might be a tough sell for Americans.. as if insane gas prices, ratcheted-up border security, need to have a passport to re-enter the US, and even lingering fears from the 2003 SARS epidemic aren't enough to keep Americans on the south side of the 49th parallel (or the north side of the Detroit-Windsor tunnel/Ambassador bridge!) Guest guest
Oh no, I wanted to go to the Toronto retreat but I don't have a passport yet and I think nowadays there's a backlog of applications so I may not be able to get one on time. Mike are you sure you need a passport to re-enter the US? How about if you're driving your own car there, not flying etc. I thought there was another year's grace period before this went into effect, at least for those driving to Canada. Thanks. You absolutely have to have a passport to get back in the US and when I applied a few weeks ago, there was a 10-week processing period. Check with your local passport office to see if they think you'll get yours in time to go to Toronto. At this point, it's iffy. (Your local passport office is probably your city court house, even in a small town.)

But passports will not be required for road crossings until sometime in 2008, and possibly not until mid-2009. The governors of some of the northern states that depend on cross-border tourist traffic are trying to get the deadline pushed back. So if you can afford the cost of gas (and that's a very big if!!) you will be ok without having a passport. Ontario will be coming up with a high-security driver's license that will pass muster with the dept. of Homeland security. Keval ______________________________\ ____Luggage? GPS? Comic books? Guest guest
You can go to the closest passport office (ours was Chicago) and obtain an emergency passport when travelling within 5 days or something like that. It turned into a fiasco (no surprise with all the red tape). My son was turned away because the office was over capacity and closed by the fire marshalls. Amma watched out for him as a lady working on Saturday (it is closed on Saturdays but he was told to return by a guard)-after the big runaround-this lady overheard him while taking her break outside talking to the guard. She took pity on him and took his paperwork (and credit card! yipes) back up to the office in the highrise office building, and returned with his passport in hand. whew! So act now or forever hold your peace. Adriane Adriane Bradley Independent Advanced Director The Pampered Chef 636-928-3554
Guest guest
Just to let you all know - I went to my local PO and asked about needing a passport to go to Canada and they said if you are driving up you don't need it this year. I live near the border so I'll be driving up and I'm pretty sure our PO is up-to-date with their information. LLama Gratis a cualquier PC del Mundo. Guest guest
http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/regional/regional_1170.html You need a certified birth certificate if you are flying-the one with the raised seal. A driver's license will not be accepted as proof of citizenship. Guest guest
I am sorry but the certified birth certificate is to go INTO Canada- the U.S. may require a passport to return. Read the U.S. info and I would contact the Passport offices to be sure rather than just the Post Office. Better safe than sorry. As of last January 1, you need a passport to re-enter the US from Canada. But hey, Canada's not such a bad place to live, so don't sweat the passport.
