Guest guest
As some of my may know, I was born with myelomeningocele spina bifida, which involved my being born with a cyst on my lower back which contained part of my spinal cord. Surgery was performed a day after I was born and I had a subsequent surgery a few weeks later to insert a shunt due to the development of hydrocephalus. I recently had an MRI done and was diagnosed with a tethered cord, which means that parts of my spinal cord became embedded in the scar tissue from the first surgery and as I grew, my spine was stretched. As a result, in the past year or two especially, I have been experiencing increasing back and leg pain, leg numbness, etc. With this unofficial diagnosis (Since the MRI was not ordered, but volunteered for), I'll be seeing my neurosurgeon soon to get an order for a full-spine MRI. Once that is done and is recorded with a diagnosis, it will be decided if I will undergo surgery again. Thankfully, the surgery is (relatively, for being spinal surgery) low risk and once done, the progression of the symptoms is generally halted and if the damage was not permanent prior to the surgery, many of the symptoms will lessen or disappear entirely. If surgery is not performed, it will almost certainly be progressive and get worse with every year that passes. I would appreciate prayers and well-wishes for a speedy and successful outcome of this situation, especially as I hope it will not interfere with my hope to meet Amma for the first time this June. The funny part, however, is that less than two weeks ago I was bummed very much by my numbness and pain after a satsang group, and began crying to Amma to take it away and fix it so I can do my best to serve others in the future and not be paralysed and unable to do much of anything by age 30, which is where I saw myself heading. And suddenly, I have my answer, even if it's not finalized yet. Goes to show she always works to get you an answer, one way or the other. =) Jai Ma! -Katie ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
