Asking Amma to Marry Them?

Namah Shivaya... Can anyone share their experiences and/or advice about

asking Mother to bless a couple with a marriage ceremony?

Friends contacted me about their recent engagement, and are hoping Amma will

marry them on this upcoming U.S. Summer Tour. They have gone for Darshan

together before, I think, but are not part of the Oregon satsang. So far

I've suggested writing to Amma directly in Amritapuri, and/or contacting the

M.A. Center in San Ramon to touch base with Ramaa Devi or Dayamrita. And of

course, asking Her directly!

Am I forgetting anything obvious? Thanks, and Love, Prashanti

For one thing, the bride will have to spend some

serious bucks for one of Amma's devi bhava saris.

Yeah, that's right Joanna. I think it was clarified last summer that it's

just that the wedding clothes be " new. " And Amma certainly seems to arrange

quite artfully that the right bride end up with the right sari! ; ) love,

I was married by Amma and I bought a new less expensive sari- not a Devi Bhava

one. I

think it's most respectful (and joyful!) to formally ask Amma's permission for

her to marry

you. I also would ask the Swamini about the other customs- an offering of fruit

and

flowers, flower malas (can be all carnations- you can get in bulk at a flower

market), a

donation (does not have to be large), etc.

In my experience Amma and her swamis, swaminis were most interested in my

happiness,

not my big (non-exixstent as of yet) bucks. If you both sincerely want Amma to

marry you,

it will not be a matter of a huge amount of money. A Devi Bhave sari is nice - I

since

bought one that I will wear at my college graduation- but having Devi herself

will bless

you both through and through!

wishing you happiness!
