Guest guest
[i am forwarding a mail by Mr Ansari for the discussions - kishore patnaik} Dear Friends, Could anyone interested in ancient calendarics and astronomy (to some extent) read through the following two short notes and let me have his/her comments and corrections of any sort?: http://www.parthian-empire.com/Metonic-Callippic-dates3.pdf and, http://www.parthian-empire.com/Calendar%20of%20Alexanders%20Death-dates3.pdf The first one deals with some mathematical points that B. L. Van der Waerden overlooked in his paper in the Journal of Hellenic Studies (1960), regarding conversion of dates into the Metonic and Callippic calendars. The second note briefly addresses the possibility that the two discrepant dates of Alexander's death in Plutarch may be on a Callippic type calendar. The first note is actually related to a third one I am revising that deals with the three Chaldean dates in the Almagest. I'll upload that one as soon as it is completed. It contains a good deal of astronomical points and computations that demand multiple check, since even a slight slip can lead to wrong results and misleading conclusions. All the best, Farhad Assar =================
