The Vedic Golden Age brings sense of pride to FilipinosNamaste, below is an article regarding the the gold collection at the Central Bank of the Philippines. Not mentioned in the article is the fact that the gold is Hindu/Vedic in nature. Click link below for samples. Note the impact of Philippine's Vedic past on the author below. Magnify that effect by a few billion and we have millions of examples of a past that has the potential to re-awaken humanity's natural Vedic culture. Vrndavanhttp://vedicempire.com/index.php?option=com_content & task=view & id=22 & Itemid=26FINALLY, I saw the fabulous Gold collection of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). If you have not seen it yet, you should do so right away. It gives you a psychic lift, that ego-massage one needs for dismal days. BSP Governor Rafael Buenaventura said the gold collection provides an insight into our pre-Hispanic past during which, "...a flourishing economy actively engaged in local

and international trade; a distinct culture and art tradition that resulted from a fusion of indigenous and diverse foreign influences; and the artistry and technical ingenuity of our ancestors who crafted magnificent gold creations comparable to the finest done in other parts of the world. (Foreword, Gold Collection catalogue). However, very few of us know that our nations story is "wrought in gold," to use the words of Ramon Villegas, renowned art patron and author of Ginto, a well-researched and beautifully illustrated book recently launched by the BSP.Mr. Villegas stressed the role of this precious metal in the reconstruction of historical data and theories about "Classic Philippine rituals and life." (The authors use of "Philippine" is probably for convenience). Not only was gold traded, it was also used for rituals and cherished traditions. A brides dowry had a heavy gold component; the panhimuyat was given to her

mother and if she happened to be the chiefs daughter, she received an elaborate gold chain called pasonor. Rescinded wedding arrangements as well as murders entailed a cost in gold. After death, a safe passage to eternity could only be guaranteed with gold; the eyes, mouth, and forehead of a dead person were usually covered with finely engraved gold sheets and the buyoc, the native priest, was paid in gold. All over this archipelago, from the Ilocos, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Cagayan Valley, Zambales, Paracale, Catanduanes, Masbate, Iloilo, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Samar to Butuan and Surigao, archeologists as well as scavengers have unearthed clasps, fabrics, belts, tassels, necklaces, chains, earrings, ear plugs, leglets, bracelets, cuffs, vessels, statues, and weapons in the finest gold. "Butuan was virtually a city of gold," raves Villegas, "...Social prestige was in direct proportion to the gold displayed by a person. The BSP's Surigao treasure trove gives us

an idea of Butuanon society and the lifestyle of its ruling class; even their weighing pans were made of gold.In 1525, Pigafetta marveled, "...Pieces of gold, the size of walnuts and eggs, are found by sifting the earth in the island of that king whom I led to our ships. All the dishes of that king are of gold and also some portion of his house, we were told by that king (Raja Siaui) himself. According to their customs, he was very grandly decked out, and the finest looking man we saw among those people. He wore two large golden earrings fastened in his ears. At his side hung a dagger the shaft of which was somewhat long and all in gold. He had three spots of gold on every tooth , and his teeth appeared as if bound with gold. That island of his was called Butuan and Calagan." While admiring our amazing legacy, at the basement of the Metropolitan Museum, it suddenly occurred to me that this archipelago, though at the periphery of great Asian empires, actually

reached First World status 2,000 years ago. (gcruz) http://www.mb.com.ph/issues/2004/09/27/OPED2004092719376.html
