Guest guest
Dear friends, The current and ambicious project " Land, Water and Settlement: Environmental constraints and human responses in northwest India between 2000 and 300 BC " is being carried out by Banaras Hindu University and Cambridge University. As it is obvious it deals with the period between Indus Civilization and Second Urbanization. The two main investigators are Dr. Cameron Petrie from Cambridge and Dr. R.N. Singh from BHU. Basically Dr Petrie stresses that this is one of the first projects that combines the efforts of archaeologists, geographers and geologists. One of the aims is to establish when Saraswati river ceased to flow. It could confirm or deny previous researches. Project's first field season was in 2008 with some important results like that the exact location of Harappan and Late Harappan archaeological sites, especially in Haryana State, is bad informed in practically all past reports; and maybe the more important fact that Haryana has MANY MORE Harappan sites than previously thought because a great number of them are in mounds below current villages and others are not mentioned in official lists. Project's latest updating is at: (Previous Reasearch): http://tinyurl.com/oye9gw (2008 Season): http://tinyurl.com/osejfs There is also a fundamental report in the latest issue of Man and Environment journal: Singh R. N., Petrie C.A. et al. 2008, " Settlements in context: Reconnaissance in western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana " , in Man and Environment 33 (2), pp. 71-87.
