reply:

There was a great Yogi (actually, a Siddha) by name Dakshina Murthy

on the hills of Mahendra giri. Mahendra giri is situated in the

district of Srikakulam, the north-western most district of Andhra

pradesh in the border of Orissa.

Dakshina murthy was known to aryans and hence, he is called dakshina

murthy(deity from south or more specifically, deity from the left

side of the land ie andhra pradesh)

He was revered so much for his powers of siddha. He was taken as the

avatar of siva, coz he used to follow the life style of siva. He

used

to practice siddha, a variant of yoga and lived in the caves. He had

no objection who his followers were. His followers ranged from the

wise foursome of the Devarshis(great rishis from Tibet) viz. sanat

etc. to the folk artists and sanyasis and destitutes.

He used to talk Telugu. His language was called as " paisachi " , (the

language of wandering spirits)by aryans because it was spread by the

ghost look alikes of the sanyasis and folk artists and destitutes

from his followings.

The more cultured people, such as traders from Andhra, of Telugus

never used to speak in this ' paisachi' languge to aryans. They used

to converse in perhaps sanskrit. This culture even now is

predominant

in Telugus that , when two so called cultured people gather, they

prefer to speak in English rather than telugu when they want to

impress! (This streak , though is present in entire India, is more

predominant in Telugus)

Agasthya is a telugu guy who has supported Devas(Tibetans). He was

asked by the tibetans to go further south to quell the rebellions of

hill tribes of Meru and also, help the tibetans in locating asuras

hiding in the water paths of south.

He has learnt this language of ' paisachi' from Dakshina murthy and

when he has gone to Tamil nadu on his mission, this languge

predominated the already exisitng dravidian language. The synthesis

of already exisitig local tongue and Telugu has given risen to

modern

Tamil.

Hence, the legend that Tamil was given by Siva(dakshina murthy) to

agasthya.
