Guest guest
Dear all,From the Mahabharata we know during the time of the Mahabharata war (ie.in the year 3139 BCE) the horses were used for drawing chariots but these horses were obviously not the fast moving race-horses, as the war was confined only to the limits of Kurukshetra area, nor these horses were tall. These horses must have been of a type more akin to the donkeys, who could carry the load of the chariots whole day from morning till evening, with their movement confined to the small area of Kurukshetra. What then was the type of these horses? Or were these some sort of mules?Regards,Sunil K. Bhattacharjya
Guest guest
Dear all, Further we know from the Mahabharata that the horses from Kamboja (in the north of Kashmir) and those from Parama-Kamboja (Cambodia?) were superior. To my knowledge the latter type is short and having excellent endurance as well as load-carrying capacity. Even the short horses from Sind also seem to fit the bill. Why then some scholars say that horse came to india at a later date from the west. Regards, Sunil K.
