Dear all,

Does any one know of any articles on the above Kavyam for dating purposes? Who has patronized Magha?

It is likely that Sisupala vadha is a puranic allegory, culled from Mbh to denote the fight between highly vaishavaite patron of Magha and kings of Chedi (Central India).

One verse of Magha says that the Hero has felled elephants. This is some what strange because Vishnu is known for saving the elephant rather than felling it. This can mean only one thing : the patron king has fought and come over Nagas too (for meaning of Nagas as elephants, cf Kosambi).

I invite comment from the learned members of the group.

best regards,

Kishore patnaik
