What angered me most was the way the Indian history >was degraded by the textbook writers, most of whom are Christians. I will try to talk here about two main problems : 1. They talk in the history text books about the uselessness of Yajnas (this itself is questionable) and the so called revolution against brahminical values by Jain and Buddha are given prominence. No text book talks of the values enshrined in Vedas and Puranas. In fact, it is a falsification to say that Jina and Buddha revolted against Hinduism. In those days, there were hundreds of schools trying to discuss the philosophy in their own way and out of these, Buddhism and Jainism got prominence for various reasons. However, because of this the child gets to hate the Hinduism and thinks that everything that is taught in Hinduism is bunkum. 2. Perhaps, this is the most important aspect of our past. No text book teaches who we are. They start with IVC and continue to discuss Aryans and the non existent fight between Indus valley people and Aryans. So in the melee, who am I? where did I come from? should I love or hate Aryans? The British system of teaching has effectively destroyed the Hindu identity, pushing the best of the minds into an identity crisis. Guest guest
One more perspective Most of the text book writers does not seem to know Sanskrit , as a result they could not interpret Agamas authoritatively. The vernacular palm leaves of Agamas, if written , had become inaccessible to the later generations. The gap between the understanding of these text book writers and the truth, sometimes so correctly discussed in dispassionate European works, has to be bridged and this process seems to be rather slow. Why? This is because often scholars are not paid well, if they only do research. They have to work in other jobs at least in teaching. . Where on earth and in which period millionaires comprised the body of scholars? You will see that most of the contributors to (your) group “AncientIndia “ are no way connected to a government windfall being issued by the 6th pay commission. The beneficiaries of such commissions are simply no where to be seen in such groups. They are more worried about their moolah. This is 100% fact. On the other hand, the Universities which should be doing actual research seem to be lackadaisical in their work and the jobs of researchers are lying vacant. They simply do not able to find the necessary funds, even to pay Rs 200 per lecture to visiting faculty. We have successfully defeated our grandest resource - the human resource of a billion strength. What is the point in talking about mudra-rakshasa ! Nevertheless, each upcoming generation is better equipped than the previous. They achieve more than their fore fathers and we can hope for the best in our future generations. Dr. Deepak bhattacharya.
