Guest guest
Could the " original " possibly be J. S. Speyer's Sanskrit Syntax (1st ed. Leyden: E. J. Brill, 1886)? The Key is (from the record in the Library of Congress catalog): A Key to Apt's [i.e. Apte's] Guide to Sanskrit composition; giving a close rendering into English and Sanskrit of all the Sanskrit and English sentences .... Compiled by an experienced graduate teacher.2d ed. Bombay, Standard Pub. Co., 1923.136 p. 18 cm. WorldCat gives many editions of Apte's book, the two latest from 2002 and 2004 but no more editions of the Key. I would suspect that the Key would be out of copyright if anyone cared to reprint or photocopy it, but one would have to contact a copyright lawyer rather than take my guess. Allen Thrasher >>> " Lakshmi " <lsrinivas 12/5/2009 6:53:32 AM >>> The late Shri M R Kale says in the preface to his 'Higher Sanskrit Grammar' that QUOTE the chapter on syntax contains almost everything given in the first 20 chapters of Prof Apte's 'Guide to Sanskrit Composition,' the same original having been followed by both. UNQUOTE Can somebody throw light on which is that original Shri Kale is refering to? Also, the above guide of Shri Apte's is said to have a Key published in 1923 or so. Does anybody know if there has been a reprint of this Key or if a new edition has been published of this Key? Thanks in advance, Lakshmi Srinivas
