Applications are now open for the Sixth International Jain Summer School of

Jain Studies in 2010. Senior undergraduates, graduates, research and teaching

faculty interested in this area, are invited to visit the website

http://www.jainstudies.org for detailed information about this school and

reports and photographs of previous schools. Centred in New Delhi and then

visiting various Jain centres, the programme offers an opportunity to learn the

philosophy and engage with the living art, people and culture of one of the

world's oldest heritage of ahimsa (non-violence). Funding is also available for

selected students.

Sean Bevis, a Masters graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies,

University of London said:

" The 2009 Summer School gave me a unique opportunity to learn about the Jain

heritage in India, its heartland. I met talented students from all over the

world and was able to conduct valuable research for a PhD proposal, which

greatly benefited from direct contact with the Jain community. "

There are two key programmes – a three week programme from 1st to 21st June, and

a six week programme from May 26th to 6th July. The shorter programme is

targeted at senior undergraduates and graduates, and the longer programme, at

postgraduates and teaching faculty keen to further their knowledge in this area.

The applications deadline is mid-February 2010 and the forms are on-line so the

application process is very straight-forward. The specific link for information

is: http://www.jainstudies.org/our-programe.php

and forms are on the Prospective Applicants section.

Any enquiries about the programme can be directed at India Director, Dr. Shugan

Jain (svana) or in Europe, Dr. Prakash Shah (Prakash.shah)

or Dr. Atul Shah (atul) and we would all be happy to help.

We would appreciate if you could forward this to anyone whom you know may be

interested in this programme.
