Guest guest
History of Jainism in Maharashtra Much has been written about history of Jainism in various regions like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Bihar, Bengal, Rajsthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh etc. But history of Jainism in Maharashtra is less discussed. Rock inscriptions found in Maharashtra suggest that Jain monks were present in Maharashtra before Common Era. Interestingly, the oldest rock inscription in Maharashtra (2nd BCE) is an inscription related to Jainism, and the oldest rock inscription in Marathi language (10th CE) is also a Jain inscription. In my article History of Jainism in Maharashtra, I have discussed various aspect of this subject, which includes archeological evidences, literary references, contribution of royal dynasties, Bhattarak tradition, people etc. Please have a look at: http://jainology.blogspot.com/2009/10/history-of-jainism-in-maharashtra.html -Mahavir Sanglikar Post Box No. 58 Chinchwad East, Pune 411019 India 91 962 372 5249
