Guest guest
Apologies if this is a newby question. I'm taking an interest in the word 'chandaso' in PÄli and want to understand the etymology in Sanskrit. Whitney and Monier-Williams seem to clearly identify 'chandas' as coming from the root 'chad'. Since this means 'to seem, to please, to seem good' am I right in thinking that the usage as poetic meter is therefore related to the notion that meter was pleasing? Or are there two homonyms? Is this one of those things that are so obvious that no one bothers to spell them out? If so could someone spell it out for me? Thanks Jayarava
