Guest guest
Dear all, I think I found if not the source of the saying I asked you about then at least a clear parallel. I asked you about the identity of the following verse: pUrvajanmakRtaM pApaM vyAdhirUpeNa bAdhate / tacchAntir auSadhair dAnair japahomArcanAdibhiH // (parAzaramAdhavIya in Islamapurkar 2, 2, p.273; Tarkalankar 2, p.525). I found a parallel in zAtAtapasmRti 1.4-5: duSkarmajA nRNAM rogA yAnti copakramaiH zamam / jApyaiH surArcanair homair dAnais teSAM zamo bhavet // pUrvajanmakRtaM pApaM narakasya parikSaye / bhAdate vyAdhirUpeNa tasya japyAdibhiH zamaH // [zAtAtapa 1.4-5 in smRtINAM samuccayaH (Apte 1905), p.396]. Kane (vol.4, p.172) quotes vv.1-4 of the same text). best, mikael ----------------------------- Mikael Aktor, Associate Professor, PhD Institute of Philosophy, Education and Study of Religions University of Southern Denmark Campusvej 55, DK-5230 Odense M, Denmark Phone (+45) 6550 3318 (work) / (+45) 2830 7394 (mobile) Web http://www.sdu.dk/staff/aktor.aspx
