Guest guest
Dear Friends, I received the following message from a concerned party. Though I tried to determine the validity of the allegations by checking the thesis, the UMI version is not text-searchable, and I don't have time to read the thing right now. So, unless Mr. Wynant or Mr. Fozdar want to give more corroboration, come to your own conclusions. Best, CKW -------------- Dear Sir or Madam, I just discovered by chance that in 2003 a person named Eric Wynants posted a piece entitled " The Making of India: Freemasonry? " on the Indology , and you seem to have approved the posting (from what I could gather when I expanded the message information). All that Mr. Wynants (whom I do not know) wrote regarding Freemasonry in India--aside from typos, grammar mistakes, and pasting errors--was taken from various chapters of " Constructing the `Brother': Freemasonry, Empire, and Nationalism in India, 1840-1920, " which was my doctoral dissertation completed at UC Berkeley in 2001. However, he did not credit me or cite my work at all, or ask my permission to use my research, which means that he was committing intellectual theft, or plagiarism. I respectfully ask that you remove that posting from the Indology group and contact Mr. Wynants telling him why you have done so. Sincerely, Vahid Fozdar Department of History California State University, East Bay Hayward, California, USA vahid.fozdar
