Guest guest
Dear List members, I have been able to get CDs with saama and R^ig veda recitations. I have been trying for a while to get some samples of yajur veda recitation without success. Is anyone aware of where I can get them, or if the yajur veda recitation by Nambudiris has ever been recorded? Thanks! Rama

Guest guest
I am sorry I don't have the R^ig CDs with me, so I am not able to provide details. But I believe the entire R^ig veda is now available from Manorama (my father-in-law emailed me something a while back, sorry I can't locate it). However, here is the saama-veda CD detail: Saamavedam, Selected Hymns, Manorama Music Heritage Series, Rendered by Brahmasree Samavedi Thottam Krishnan Namboothri and Brahmasree Dr. Sivakaran Namboothri, Manorama Music Heritage Series. Cochin, Phone 0484-2316285. It has the PuruSha sUktam, from the hR^iksamhitaa and Ganasamhita, and the rudra sUktam. I picked it up in a music store in Cochin. My wife is from Kerala, and I asked my father-in-law to enquire around about Yajurveda Nabuthiri recordings. He even asked the yajur-veda paaThashaala principal, and it seems none are available publicly. Too bad. I was hoping some of our indologists might have recorded them. I guess not. Sorry, Daniel, the CD is copyrighted and I can't make MP3s and share them. Rama
Guest guest
The entire samaveda was recorded by SriSankara Sanskrit University in kaladi, kerala which comes to some 95 hours (70 hours samhitha and 25 hours vedic prayogas like ooham, ooshani). this is available in both audio and video. Recension obviously is the jaminiya one. Videocds costs 1000 per cd and audio cds cost 500 per cd. No lose Cds are sold and it comes as a package of 95 cds . so tht will be some 95000 INR Cost is high as University does not wants to commercialise this and should reach only those with academic interests (thatswht i was told) Entire R^ig is available from manoramamusic either online or from website. Both can be googled out for more information. Ruling the kerala mode of chanting out, all the 4 vedic chants are available online, the one that was recorded by Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage. Its freely downloadable but filesize makes it important to have a decent net connection INDOLOGY , " Ramakrishnan Balasubramanian " <rama.balasubramanian wrote: > > I am sorry I don't have the R^ig CDs with me, so I am not able to > provide details. Guest guest
Dr. Thrasher, Thanks for the link. I will probably just buy the CD from Smithsonian. I was in the DC area a while back, wish I had known about this. But, the Four Vegas-Presley stuff is just too funny :-). I was able to hear a bit of the recording of the Nabudiri Krishna Yajur Veda chant from the link below. Unfortunately, one of them is the koTTu, and the other is the ghoSham type of recitation. I am looking more to a straight chant of the samhita, so that I can compare the Tamil recitation tradition with the Nambudiri recitation. There is some work on Staal's book about this, but I'd like to do a deeper analysis, especially regarding reduplication of syllables. Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks RPJ, Valeri and Allen, When I looked through Staal's book, I did not see any cassettes. Perhaps it's time for me to read this book. Thanks!
