Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya!! All Hindu rituals have deep significance. I been churning on meaning behind the ritual practices that we offer to Lord Shiva. Here are my churnings: The water falling drop by drop from the urn above the Shiva Lingam signifies that the mind had to be continuously with the Supreme So that the soul is filled with the divine powers and virtues from the Supreme soul. The milk, yogurt and the water that are offered to the Shiva Lingam represents that in order to stay in the remembrance of the Supreme Soul Shiva, we need to have the purity of mind and enlightened character. The auk flower, Datura and the bell leaves that are offered on to the Shiva Lingam indicate that the negative qualities, intoxications and addictions should be offered up and surrender to God Shiva, the purifier. Three lines of Sandalwood past are drawn on the Shiva Lingam with the dot placed in the center. This symbolizes that the Brahma, Vishnu and Shankar are actually the creation of Shiva. Through Brahma God creates the new world, through Vishnu God sustains the new creation and through Shankar, iron aged impure world is destroyed. The Supreme Being is also called God (Generator, Operator and destroyer). Please add your comments. Om Namah Shivaya!!
