Repsected Sir,

From what I have heard, that is a horn of a bull which has a small hole at the tip, this horn is usually plated in metal. It is used for abhiseghams using water or milk to the Siva lingam.

I donot know if that particular vessel in the link is made up of real horn or if it is made up of metal only.

It is typically used in north India and I have not seen it being used in the south.

Sincerely,

Kamlesh--- On Wed, 10/7/09, tpmods <no_reply > wrote:

only in north india at almost all shiv temples. if a native visit any pooja item

selling store anywhere in north india and ask for a singhi, he would get it.

generally it is of two types, brass and copper and cost hardly one hundred

rupees or so.
