dear sirs,

How many types of karma are there?

I have heard that there are 3 types of karma

Sanchit, prarabdha, and anarabdha.

I would like to know what is the anarabdha karma?

regards,

kanishk.

Dear Kanishk,

A jnani has no doership - so nothing binds him/her. The story goes that Vyasa

was very hungry and Yamuna was elevated. Some women bring him food and he has a

hearty meal. After the meal he tells Yamuna that if I never ate anything, please

go down and the river complies. I may have missed some details in the story but

its essence is that atman never does anything, the food was consumed by a form

called Vyasa not by Atman. So for jnani, there is no agami karma.

Regarding prarabdha, I have read/heard that it is like an arrow that has already

been shot. Even though a person is jnani, due to prarabdha the body will

continue to live on earth for sometime.

Sanchita is the storehouse of unmanifested karma which gets immediately burnt on

the dawn of knowledge.

Shailendra
