Guest guest
Dear Vipra Bhandavah, Ganga is in Pure form upto the stage it comes to Rishikesh. Many Industries like IDPL at Rishikesh and BHEL at Hardwar and many more industries downstram are stated to discharge their effluents into the Ganges. Lots of towns located on the bangs of Ganga are known to discharge the gutters and sewreage into Ganga. At every place peopel who take bath also wash their mouth and other parts of body. How can the Ganga be treated as in 'pure form' upto the stage it reaches Sangam is not clear. By name only river Ganga can be said to be pure. In physical terms purity of Ganga is not maintained by people. Sraddha has to be performed to Pitrus as long as they are in pitruloka. We do not know as to when our pitrus reincarnate and in which body and in which world. We keep performing Pratyabdika Sraddha and other related rituals viz., Pitru Tarpanam on specific occasions like Amavasya, Uttarayana and Dakshinayana Punyakalams, Grahana kalams etc. etc. Also Sraddha is to be performed at certain holy places like Trayambakeswar, Rameswaram, Gokarna etc, etc, (known as Tirtha Sraddha) whenever we happen to visit them. As far as Varanasi is considered, panchaganga sraddham at 5 Ghats between varana and asi, a regular Sraddham after performing Sankalpa, Prayaschittam, Godanam and other Danams before taking bath in Ganges is a Must. One must spend minimum three days at Varanasi to perform different rituals and have Darshan at innumerable temples and witness Arat etc. We need to perform Shraddha Karma for our ancestors as longs as we are alive in this body. At Gaya we perform Phalguni Titha Sraddham, Vishnupada pindam and regular Sraddham followed by pinda pradanam at Akshaya Vatam. Sra homamdhham is of two types:- One is with Homam and feeding of Brahmins(Visvedevah and Pitru pitamahah) and Pindapradanam . The other one is called Hiranya Sraddham, not involving Homam and feeding. Only Dakshina, and rice, vegetables etc. are given. In fact, we are required to perform 96 Sraddhas(including Tarpanams) in a year. This is called Shannavati Sraddham. Failure to perform prescribed shraddhams attract Pitru Sapam. In kasi they if you die than you need not do do pitru shraddam and once you do pinda danam at gaya than than you need not do any shraddam further. which is not correct as per our scripture our ancestors come on every amavasya day to take tila tarpanam which is their food. In Gaya ganges does not flow, where in it passes through prayag and kashi. Ganga is pure form before sangam later on yamuna saraswati joins them ( Triveni sangam ) at allahabad Besides all other pitru rituals Tirtha sradddam at prayag and pancha ganga pindam at kashi and pinda danam at gaya is to be performed. This is as per my information. well i expect guidance from expert veda pandits on this matter cnu.pne On Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 11:05 PM, G Balasubramanian <gbsub wrote: Better than Varanasi is Gaya for purposes of Pitru Sraddham. Those who stay at Varanasi and die at Varanasi are stated to attain mukti as Lord Viswanatha is said to take care of them by uttering in their ears the message of Mukti.
