Guest guest
Hari OMLet us revisit the topic of death for a clearer understanding of 'Death', since certain queries have been received in my mail box seeking clarifications from some group members on my earlier postings. What is meant by 'Death'? In common parlance death is understood as end of life, the permanent cessation of vital bodily functions such as loss of heartbeat and pulsebeat and absence of spontaneous breathing as well as brain death. It is THE ONLY factor most feared and dreaded by all living beings. Will any one say calmly, happily , willingly and consciously ,"I want to die"? Every one of us want to live as long as possible in our heart of hearts. Death of the physical body has to occur, after the function of the body in a life circle is over. It is inescapable. The Bhagawad Gita declares that death is certain for one born. So, if you do not want to die, it can be achieved by not being born again, notwithstanding the fact you have to die as long as you are in your present physical body. This is what the Upanishads and Gita speak loudly. So long as we do not realize ( not merely intellectually appreciate or know)our True Identity, viz., that we are none other than Divinity, Pure Consciousness, The Supreme Spirit, the Atman etc. etc. we have to take birth again and again." Punarapi Jananm Punarapi Maranam etc. etc. as Sankaracharya puts it in his famous Bhaja Govindam. The ideal prayer of a spiritually-inclined person to God should be for birthlessness rather than deathlesness. A materialist ,on the other hand will pray for deathlesness so that he can enjoy the pleasures of the world as perceived by him.
