Guest guest
Hari OMThe Hindu scriptures declare that a person after his or her death can reach any one of the following three destinations depending on the Gunas (attributes or temperament) that were predominant in that birth----- Satvik(good) people go to heaven, Rajasik or passionate people to earth and Tamasik or ignorant to hell. It is said that Jnanis, Yogis and Brahmacharis can go upto Brahmaloka (planet or abode of the creator). In the Bhagavata Purana there is the story of wicked king Ajamila, who had ,by his evil actions, qualified himself for hell. By providential grace and intervention, he uttered the name of " Narayana", son of Ajamila, on sighting the servants of Yama, god of death who had come to his bedside to take him to Yama. Lord Narayana came to his rescue and liberated him from the clutches of death by taking him to Vishnuloka as the king had, though unintentionally, taken a name which is of the Lord just before his death. That is why until a few years back parents used to name their children with one of Lord`s names (selected from Sahasranamams or Ashtotrams) of say, Vishnu, Siva, lalitha, Lakshmi, Ganapathy ,Subramanya etc. etc. On account of Maya (delusion) man is attached to his wife, sons and daughters. The natural tendency of human beings is to call that person whom we love most at any point of time----be it for sharing happiness or for sharing sorrow. Hence the need for naming our children and grandchildren with one of the names of God even if the name might be out of fashion according to modern thinking. Calling children by pet names such as Pinky, Dubloo etc. etc. at the time of death can not help us in saving us from going to hell. (to be continued) G.
