This humble self has been asked to clarify by a member whether 'we have to pay for our bad karmas in past lifes even though we are spiritually inclined in our present life'. " Will I have to suffer for the consequences of my bad actions in my present life despite my having realised it and repenting for it? I have surrendered to God and begged to be pardoned. Will not God condone my bad actions?" Some people say that karma of past births have to be consumed(enjoyed or suffered) in this birth; They believe that God`s grace can not save you; but I believe that one need not suffer from bad karma like that. When a severe pain torments you, the treating doctor gives you a morphine injection to relieve the pain; you do not feel the pain though it is still there in your body. God`s grace is like the morphine; the pain is not felt though you go through it. The Lord can also save a man completely from the cosequences of bad karma. Only God` grace can remove the consequences of all bad Karmas completely, provided repeat provided ,our surrender to God is total and our sense of EGO is emptied at the altar of God, SARVA DHARMAN PARITYAJYA MAMEKAM SARANAM VRAJA;AHAMTWA SARVAPAPEPYO MOKSHAYISHYAMI MA SUCHA , says the Lord in Bagavad Gita. " Leaving aside all reservations if you surrender to Me alone I shall release you from all sins-" assures the Lord. Here sins stand for past bad karmas. Let us understand clearly that unless our surender is total and unconditional God will not come to our rescue. If we entertain any doubts about God`s capacity to help us we will continue to suffer. A douting Thomas is bound to suffer. Samsayatma Vinasyati---says the Lord, again in Bagavad Gita. Let us make ourself worthy of God`s grace by doing good deeds. Let us rededicate ourselves for the welfare of the downtrodden. Let us follow the footsteps of Swamy and recognise the Divinity present in each one of us. If we can experience the same Atman present in everyone and if we can radiate Love and Compassion in our day-to-day life and if we live for others and not for ourselves Swamy will take care of our bad karmas.
