36. Habits

Illness is caused by the malnutrition of the mind than of body. Doctors speak of vitamin deficiency; I will call it the deficiency of 'Vitamin G' and I will recommend the repetition of the Name of God with accompanying contemplation of the glory and grace of God. That is the 'Vitamin G'. That is the medicine. Regulated life and habits are two-thirds of the treatment, while the medicine is only one-third.

Have high ideals. Strive to elevate yourselves. Work to attain the highest goal, God Himself. Whatever the obstacle or the opposition, do not be disheartened. Give up the animal in you, stabilize yourselves in human virtues, and proceed boldly towards the achievement of Divinity.. Do not waver - having devotion today, tomorrow seeking sensual gratification, and then the day after, back to devotion again. When something goes wrong, you are filled with despair. When discipline is enforced, you start holding back, and when love is showered, you are first again. This dual attitude must be given up.

Cultivate not riches, or comfort, or luxuries, but Divine virtues. Speak sweetly; shed comfort with every glance of yours. Do not be slaves to your sensual desires. You should conquer lust and vanquish anger. Exile from your mind, greed, hate and jealousy. Dedicate your hand to the service of the fellow human beings. To resurrect infinite love and compassion, you must kill jealousy and selfishness, and purify your hearts. Earn the true mercy of the Divine. Follow the path shown by the Lord and reach the position He holds for you.
