Guest guest
Dear Friends, Want to share some thoughts on OM. When Brahman, the absolute Reality thought,"I am One; let me become many"(EKOHAM BAHUSYAMA), it is said that it caused a vibration which ultimately became a sound and this sound was OM. It is also stated that creation itself wa set in motion by the vibration of OM. OM was the fist sound and it is considered as the closest approach to Brahman. OM is considered as a sacred symbol and is emblematic of Brahman. The vibration produced by chanting OM in the physical universe corresponds to the original vibration that arose at the time of creation. The sound of OM is also called PRANAVA, which means that it sustains life and runs through breath or PRANA. OM also represents the four states of Supreme Being-. The three letters A, U and M represent respectively --Jagrat(waking), Swapna(dreaming), Sushupti(deep sleep). The fourth one is Turiya(the silence which surrounds OM). Some people hold the first three only are the states and the fourth viz., TURIYA is not a state. (To be continued) G.Balasubramanian Messenger with Voice.
